Man arrested for attacking GRACE Marketplace employees
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Michael Fleurinvil, 30, was arrested yesterday and charged with battery and false imprisonment after allegedly pushing a GRACE Marketplace employee into his office and refusing to let him leave, then punching another employee.
At about 12:35 p.m. yesterday, a Gainesville Police Department Officer responded to GRACE Marketplace, 3055 NE 28th Drive, where an employee reportedly said that Fleurinvil had pushed him into his office, then closed the door and refused to let him leave. The employee said Fleurinvil also put him into a “bear hug.”
After the first employee got away, Fleurinvil allegedly punched a second employee three times in the face. A witness reportedly told the officer that she heard the commotion in the first employee’s office and saw Fleurinvil hit the second employee.
The officer reported that Fleurinvil resisted arrest by twisting his body and trying to break free of his grasp.
Fleurinvil has been charged with two counts of simple battery, false imprisonment, and resisting an officer without violence. He has one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent); a sworn complaint was filed against him in 2019 for pointing a gun at someone, but the charge was later dropped for lack of evidence. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $72,500 and ordered a mental health evaluation.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This is evidence that all the tax payer money I continue to give Grace is effective. Just think if this guy didn’t have Grace Drug and Prostitute Place to go punch somebody. This shows our program is working, this man has showed he punches multiple employees equally and spreads the pain around. It warms my heart to hear this man was sharing his assaults with multiple people. This is why I am the back-Ward Mayor of Gainesville because I am so smart, and continue to fund this place with your tax dollars.
You thought you were clever with this one. You have way too much time on your hands.
Tommy, I believe in equity within the system and this person was being equitable with the punches he threw. This is exactly the type of homeless person that I propose to be an Ambassador for Gainesville.
I’m curious to know where you collected your data from? I strongly dislike people that speak from their rectum and spew hot crap… Please educate yourself before just randomly speaking on matters of GRACE. Unless you have been a part of the solution by volunteering and getting to know the community at hand you cannot speak on the matter.

The cops and/or paramedics get called there about 8 or 10 times a day, right? Sounds real heavenly.
another grateful resident of grace just showing his appreciation
I bet he wanted to work because he has such good work ethic, like the whole of Gangsville, but they wouldn’t give him a job.
He actually is a grate worker and very quiet mite I add idk about this situation but at work he’s no problem at all barley talks but when he does it’s soft spoken an yes ma’am and no ma’am I’m very shocked at this‼️
I guess he had you fooled
Grace Marketplace is what the Red Cross would look like if it was run by Antifa.
This attack must have been very shocking for them–normally they just attract, recruit, and provide a hideout for violent drug addicts, felons, and child molesters from all over the country before releasing them upon the innocent citizens of Gainesville. They never imagined that the monster they have created would turn on them!
It’s a shame that Fleurinvil was only able to lay hands on two of them, and that his bail was set about $71k higher than any other Grace Marketplace criminal I have ever seen. Three smacks to the face is hardly justice compared to the irreparable harm Grace Marketplace has caused to this community, but it’s a start.
Why do Grace Marketplace employees need offices anyway? Turn them into homeless shelters. You know, since you care so much about violent junkies.
I nominate for Comment of the Week
Its the sheer ignorance and the lack of education pertaining to GRACE. I cannot imagine how people such as yourself and justify this level of ignorance and stupidity at its highest level. I mean have you ever even attempted to be apart of the solution or is it that you enjoy being an internet terrorist spewing hate and lack of education on the matter.
Please feel free to provide whatever education you might feel appropriate in these comment sections.
There will be plenty of opportunity because hardly a day goes by without a person arrested in town for a felony who lists their home as GRACE or we have person arrested at GRACE for causing violence to another resident or staff member. Many of these people have multiple convictions in other parts of the state yet somehow they end up at GRACE.
Yes, yes, Mr. StandingonBS: the people who see with their own eyes that the city of Gainesville has become overrun with violent, drug-addicted homeless begging on every corner, stalking every gas station, committing assaults and burglary on a DAILY basis–these people are just ignorant, and need to be put in re-education camps by commissars such as yourself.
Why, it’s absolutely absurd to notice that having a low-barrier homeless shelter (where ‘residents’ are not required to receive police screening) seems to attract rapists, murderers, junkies, and every variety of violent felon from all over the country in search of a handout and fresh victims.
The fact that you and your fellow thieves at Grace Marketplace think you are part of “the solution” is laughable and pathetic. Feeding the animals just creates dependent populations. These willfully homeless people roam from town to town preying on the indulgence of naïve, liberal rubes such as yourself.
Our earned prosperity, the beauty of our town, our family’s safety, and the blood of our loved ones are not yours to give away to these animals.
“Yes, yes, Mr. StandingonBS: the people who see with their own eyes that the city of Gainesville has become overrun with violent, drug-addicted homeless begging on every corner, stalking every gas station, committing assaults and burglary on a DAILY basis”……
I dont see this around town. Compared to a real city, Gainesville has very few homeless people around town.
If you think you see a lot of homeless people around every corner and gas station now… You would see triple that amount if they were not at Grace.
Exactly! Some of these commenters make it sound like we are living in a Mad Max kind of world. We got one seriously amazing city in Gainesville, and I am proud of all the hard work everyone puts in who works with the homeless population. They are actually part of the solution!
Drive through the tent city molly-ville by Lynch Park and Mad Max will come to mind right away.
Implement a surtax on the local bar assoc., bail bondsman assoc, and DNC to fund disGRACE. Problem will disappear overnight.
Throw the book at this criminal.
When you bite or fight the hand that feeds you, where do you belong? I get sexual predator updates via email that are within a specific mile radius of my home. The latest is a gentleman that relocated here to Grace Market Place from Tampa, Fl. All 3 of his convicted cases ( as opposed to reported or alleged which could be greater) involved minors under 12yoa. They all occurred in Hillsborough County. Why here? Anyone can register this info at the Florida Dept. of Corrections. Prepare to be informed & depressed.
Some deranged people want this to be Portland East. If it were up to people like Poe and Ward, there would be nightly drag shows with grown men shakin’ their booties in little kids’ faces. I have no doubt that Poe would squeal at you that they are Minor Attracted Persons and NOT “pedophiles.” Bringing a bunch of pedophiles here helps make us more like Portland in their eyes. The same for turning downtown into a hellhole.
We will know we have arrived when the smell of sewage constantly permeates the patios of establishments like Dragonfly and V Pizza.
It is clear that the homeless issue in Gainesville exists because we do not have enough affordable housing. We have outreach workers on the streets 6 days a week prepping persons for housing and connecting them with the affordable units available. Hypothetically, if 100 units became available today our communities outreach team could immediately connect 100 people with housing. However, this will not solve the problem of poverty. Currently if a person receives an SSI benefit because the federal government has considered them to be unable to work due to a disability they get $941 and month. The average one bedroom cost is over $1000 per month. How is this issue to be resolved if we continue to have disabled persons priced out of the housing market? I am open for suggestions and solutions that don’t rely on simple discriminatory trolling. Offer a solution or be quite
If you have a roommate you have $1,800 per month to pool.
I’m all for helping people whose circumstances have left them destitute. This specifically doesn’t include people who are on the SSI disability fraud gravy train.
How many of the people currently on the street would accept FREE housing if there was weekly drug testing?
A drive down south Main Street or a cruise through the articles on this site leaves one with the opinion that the size of our vagrant issue is increased by the well meaning, but unrealistic, cottage industry of advocates who reenforce the opinion within the long term hobo and addict population that Gainesville is entirely OK with their personally destructive lifestyle choices.
Perhaps a material portion of the homeless problem would go away if the advocates were HONEST and told these people A) they have no future in Gainesville and B) their self-destructive lifestyle choices are not welcome. End free bus rides after 3 months and start charging hobos $10 per hour to occupy a city median.
This is still not a solution to homelessness it is only a tax (burden) on the poor
I will comment no further as this discussion is unproductive to the solution of homelessness.
You say giving the hobos and addicts more and more free government support isn’t working. Maybe trying giving them less.
What your saying, as I understand it is, instead of trying to help our neighbors move into affordable housing we should let them starve and die on the streets? Like the what happens in a plague? I don’t think that worked well in Europe. At least the gravey train provides some nutrition for starving people
Facts: More than 44 million people in the US face hunger, including 1 in 5 children. How many more homeless and hungry people would you like to see on the streets without free government support. Are you able to support all of the destitute? We need more affordable housing. According to the UN, housing is a human right. Make it happen or offer a solution instead of a complaint. Other wise you will continue to perceive your neighbors unhoused
