Man arrested for attempted carjacking at HCA North Florida Hospital

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Deontay Breshaun Richardson, 38, was arrested early this morning and charged with attempted carjacking after allegedly demanding that a nurse give him her car outside HCA North Florida Hospital.

The victim, a nurse at the hospital, went to her car to eat during her break at 3:05 a.m. She told Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies that Richardson approached her car and demanded that she open the door. She said that when she refused, Richardson said, “I have a gun, open the door” and began pulling on the handles of the front and rear doors on the driver’s side. She said she continuously honked her horn while yelling at him to go away. She said he walked away in the direction of O2B Kids, and she contacted hospital security.

Deputies connected the incident with an earlier incident when Richardson was reportedly brought to the hospital by Alachua County Fire Rescue; hospital security also said the description matched a man who had just been discharged and gave the man’s name to deputies. Hospital cameras reportedly showed Richardson leaving the hospital just before the incident, attempting to ride a bike away from the hospital, then falling; he brought the bike back and walked into the hospital, then came back outside and walked up to the victim’s car.

Richardson was reportedly located by deputies at the Circle K at 7501 W. Newberry Road, and the victim reportedly positively identified him as the man who had tried to take her car.

Richardson has 11 felony convictions (one violent) and 16 misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He served one prison sentence and was released in 2008. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $100,000.

  • Hopefully some of this nonsense will stop after Saturday for the ones who don’t have a CWP you can carry without one as long as you can legally own a gun read up on florida SYG laws

  • We coddle our criminals in America. Of course this guy felt entitled to this woman’s car. How dare she not open it for him when he demands it?!? He’s laughing at you soft lawyers and you impotent judges. He’s done this many times before I’m sure and rarely gets more than a slap on the wrist. So let’s give him a bunk near the TV and let him sleep a few days and fatten him up a little bit- he’ll be well rested and ready to terrorize our community again by the 4th of July.

  • He was in the right place for emergency care. Should have obliged him.

  • Didn’t need the picture, the name alone says it all: Deontay Breshaun . Where DO they get these silly names?
