Man arrested for exposing himself to police officer
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Christopher Mejia, 34, was arrested early this morning after allegedly exposing himself to a police officer.
At about 1:22 a.m. on January 19, a Gainesville Police Department officer was responding to a call for service when Mejia allegedly walked behind the officer and sat on the curb outside the Papa Johns at 1901 SW 13th Street.
The officer turned to speak to Mejia and reported that Mejia had pulled his pants down to his knees, exposing his genitals.
When the officer spoke to Mejia, he allegedly tried to pull his pants up and run, but when the officer commanded him to stop, Mejia reportedly walked back toward the officer. The officer reportedly placed Mejia into handcuffs after a brief period of resistance.
Mejia has been charged with indecent exposure. He has five misdemeanor convictions (none violent) in Levy and Alachua Counties. While Alachua County court records from 2024 indicate that he has no felony convictions, he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Levy County in 2015, although the charge was later dropped. He has also been convicted in Levy County of violating an injunction against repeated violence.
Judge Tatum Davis set bail at $10,000.
