Man arrested for impersonating UFPD officer

Andre Delano Haden Kerley, 33, was arrested yesterday evening after falsely claiming to be a UFPD officer.

Kerley was pulled over on SW 34th Street after a University Police Department (UFPD) officer reportedly saw him weaving through traffic and closely following other vehicles. The officer reported that before he had a chance to initiate a traffic stop, Kerley got out of his car, saying his tire was low on air. The officer then initiated a traffic stop and explained the reason for stopping him.

Kerley then allegedly said he was a law enforcement officer and produced a UFPD badge. The badge was found to be stolen from the vehicle of a current UFPD officer.

Kerley has been charged with impersonating an officer and is being held on $10,000 bond. Kerley was also arrested on May 8, 2022, by a Gainesville Police Department officer and charged with simple battery and trespassing for an incident at an Archer Road car wash; he was released on his own recognizance in that case.
