Man arrested for pointing gun at woman in Pine Meadows apartment

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – James Carl Moore, 18, was arrested yesterday for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman in an apartment in Pine Meadows (near the 2600 block of East University Avenue).

The victim told a responding Gainesville Police Department officer that at about 5:45 p.m. on March 11, she was helping her daughter move out of an apartment; she said the landlord told her to take pictures to document the condition of the apartment, and Moore’s girlfriend became upset that she was taking pictures.

While Moore was sitting on an air mattress in the living room, the victim opened a closet door, saw a gun in the closet, took a picture of the gun, and said there was a gun in the closet. She said Moore picked up the gun, pointed it at her face, and told her to stop taking pictures.

The victim said she had never felt so much fear in her life and felt like her heart would explode. She also said she does not know Moore personally. The officer reported that the victim had photos of the gun.

A witness inside the apartment said the victim was taking pictures of the apartment, saw a gun, and took a picture of it, and then Moore grabbed the gun and pointed it at the victim’s face before leaving through the back door. She said she called 911 and chased Moore, but law enforcement advised her to stop; she provided information about which way Moore had gone.

The victim’s daughter said she was outside during the incident and didn’t see what happened, but she said she saw Moore with a gun.

Another witness who was inside the apartment during the incident reportedly corroborated the accounts of the victim and the first witness.

Moore’s girlfriend reportedly said there was never any gun involved in the incident.

Post Miranda, Moore reportedly denied pointing a gun at the victim and said he didn’t even know her. He said he was inside the apartment when the first witness started yelling at him and someone else said he had just pulled a gun on the victim. He said his girlfriend advised him to leave the property, but he isn’t from Gainesville, so he went to a nearby park. He reportedly admitted tossing the gun over a fence, and the gun has not been located. When the officer asked Moore where he got the gun and why he tossed it, Moore reportedly said he didn’t want to say anything else.

Moore’s address is in Georgia, but he told Court Services that he has been here for six months and has worked for DoorDash for about a week.

Moore has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $50,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Wonder what kind of criminal record he had in Georgia? Send him back!

  • And this is why I’ll never use Door Dash or Uber Eats. Criminals with guns at your doorstep. No thanks.

  • If the gun was thrown over the fence and not found, who has it? An eight year old or another criminal or someone with delusional mental health problems? Welcome to Gainesville anyone with priors. Gotta tell my daughter to pick up her food.
