Man arrested for pulling a knife on a Mr. and Mrs. Crab employee allegedly did the same thing at Liquid Ginger and also tried to walk out without paying at Piesano’s

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jordan Caleb Pittman, 22, who was arrested yesterday and charged with a January 19 armed robbery at Mr. and Mrs. Crab, has also been charged with pulling a knife on the owner of Liquid Ginger after trying to walk out without paying for his meal. Pittman was arrested at the Midtown Piesano’s location after allegedly trying to walk out without paying; although a large knife was reportedly found in a search incident to arrest and a Piesano’s manager held him at the restaurant while waiting for police to arrive, Pittman reportedly did not pull the knife at Piesano’s.

At about 1:45 p.m. on January 25, the owner of Liquid Ginger reported that a man had walked out without paying his $58.53 bill. He said that when he confronted the man, the man brandished a knife and threatened to stab him; the owner told the responding Gainesville Police Department officer that he let the man go because he was in fear of being stabbed. The victim and a witness reportedly provided a detailed description of the suspect.

Later that day, Pittman allegedly tried to walk out without paying at Piesano’s; when he was arrested there, he was reportedly wearing the same clothing the suspect at Liquid Ginger had worn. The officer who had originally responded to Liquid Ginger went back to Liquid Ginger and conducted a photo line-up; the victim and witness at Liquid Ginger positively identified Pittman as the man who had pulled a knife.

Charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and defrauding the owner of a restaurant were added to the armed robbery charge from the January 19 incident at Mr. and Mrs. Crab.

Pittman, whose address is listed as GRACE Marketplace, has been in the area for about three months. He has a juvenile criminal history between 2011 and 2020, one adult felony conviction (non-violent), and three misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He has served one state prison sentence for burglary out of Bradford County and was released in April 2023. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $17,000 on the new charges, in addition to the $50,000 bail set the previous day by Judge Thomas Jaworski.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Well….if the geniuses in the prosecutor’s office and judges would keep this REPEAT OFFENDER in jail this wouldn’t be happening. But….we live in liberal sanctuary city so who wants to open a small business here?

    • No surprise here. G’ville attracts criminals due to: free food and place to stay (grace); light punishments IF caught and IF prosecuted, plenty of young adults with money (UF); and radical liberals that want to help “the poor”. Plenty of drugs too.. Listen Up dem lib radicals: Homeless populations aren’t STATIC! You can never feed or house “the homeless” in your area because it attracts more to be here. Real answer: Shut down Grace. Discontinue ANY assistance to losers and thugs. Come down hard on crime. Give juveniles 1 chance only. Repeaters should be jailed like adults. Do not provide routine services to anyone but small children. Bus ALL panhandlers to Stark or Orlando with free sandwich and drink.

    • Yes, unfortunately Jaworski is like Walter Green 2.0
Feels almost like Walter never left

  • So is Judge Meshon Rawls the new wrist slapping Walter Green, the criminals best friend?

  • 2 nearly identical alleged crimes. $50k bail for one, $17k for the newer nearly identical one. Make it make sense.

  • When is the city going to learn. Close down grace and load these homeless on a bus and ship them down south. There are dozens of violent crime committed weekly by these lazy bums!

  • I’m confused about the order in which this stuff happened? The timeline seems off….

    • Jan. 19 – Mr. and Mrs. Crab (sworn complaint filed, suspect known because he left his debit card there)
Jan. 25 – Liquid Ginger lunch (report taken, suspect unknown)
Jan. 25 – Piesano’s in the evening (arrest made, charged with Mr. and Mrs. Crab incident)
Jan. 26 – Charges filed in Liquid Ginger case

      • Thanks, Jennifer! I usually try to look them up on the docket but didn’t have time to on this one. Unbelievable! As always, thanks so much for all you do – the Chronicle is amazing!! : )

  • So three meals, in a town populated with liberals, and this guy can’t get anyone to pay for his meal? Not only are they liberal lunatics for continuing to support the liberal idiots who insist on keeping the light on, they’re also a bunch of hypocrites. On the bright side, at least he ate inside – don’t have to clean up the trash most like him litter the streets with.

Anyone know Poe, Ward or any of the other progressives’ cellphone numbers to help out businesses the homeless are poaching?

Democrats, despite what they claim, they’re really not that bright.

    • This perp needs to get with the program. He could have stood on median for a few hours and the local bleeding hearts would have catered to him from the same menu for free.

  • Those restaurants should prevent GRACE affiliates, public lawyers, judges, commissioners and bail bondsmen from dining too. NO SCUM OR THEIR DONORS sign posted.

  • Glad he’s got that neck tattoo so he can be easily identified! Is that the face of some demonic creature on his neck? Can a business deny you service if you look like a POS?

    • That’s the face that only a mother could love…
She probably kicked him out and now the only people who want him are Democrat cities because it helps with their numbers; crime, homelessness, potential votes, government funding.
You know, the things any parent would be proud of.

    • 100% … When I see a neck tattoo I automatically think “this person really thinks through their choices and knows what will help them get forward in life” /sarcasmoff

  • It appears the City Commission’s so-called “Entertainment District” and their so-called “Low Bar ” Costly and Dangerous Homeless Enabling Center /GRACE MARKETPLACE remains PLAGUED with violent crime.

Grace Marketplace’s “Low Bar” shelter means people can receive FREE taxpayer funded services WITHOUT undergoing a Police Clearance for outstanding warrants for Violent Crime, and has become a MAGNET for people to come to Gainesville from all over the state and country to receive FREE services on the backs of local taxpayers.

Our local homeless population and residents deserve better from our elected officials at City Hall.

    • They should rename it the “Eastman District.” All they would have to do is drop a couple letters and add an “S,” maybe add a couple more criminals, homeless, more trash.

Take that back, they’d only have to add an “S,” they already have enough of that other stuff.

  • Knife summit coming with solution restaurants will provide free meals to Grace Market customers. They will provide their bus pass as proof of Grace resident. Wait until motels are completed so they can reside closer to town.

  • He eats better than I do. Not so much in the Alachua county jail tho. No salt or pepper unless you pay for it and the meat patty tastes the same as the corn bread. Horrible food. I can promise you my dog wouldn’t eat it. That guy was eating good and now he’s bitchin’ about the food probably. At least he gets free phone calls. Darn free loaders.

  • Homelessness is a national problem, not a function of local politics. Here’s Alachua Co (pared with red Putnam CO) compared to some red counties across the state.

    Alachua County/Putnam Co – 17.8 homeless per 10,000 population.
    Marion County – 16.1
    Naples/Collier Co – 17.5
    Ft Walton/Okaloosa – 18.2

    • I can’t wait until we get some real men and women on the county commission who will pull the plug on disGRACE. Hopefully there won’t be another Danny Rolling before that happens.

    • Wish I could upvote this 1,000 times. Homelessness is a societal issue, NOT local.

      • Wrong again radical democrat. So called “Homeless” populations not static. GNV attracts homeless with free food and shelter.

  • They built a crime center magnet, thanks City and County Commissions you all are the best! Thank goodness having liberal based good intentions prevents one from having an ounce of guilty self reflection.
