Man arrested for punching officers, attacking family member with officers present

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Manuel Lee Norman IV, 25, of Valdosta, Georgia, was arrested yesterday after allegedly trying to punch a family member while the victim was speaking with police officers and then punching officers who prevented him from attacking the victim.

At about 11:30 a.m. on January 17, Gainesville Police Department officers were investigating a separate incident in the 1600 block of SE 12th Place when Norman “stormed in” and brushed past the officers toward a family member who was being interviewed by the officers.

An officer grabbed Norman and told him to stop, but Norman allegedly pushed the officer away and rushed toward the victim, grabbing the victim by the ankles in an attempt to pull him closer. Norman allegedly raised his fist to punch the victim, but an officer grabbed him and pulled him away before he was able to hit the victim.

Norman allegedly kept trying to punch the victim while two officers pulled him away, and one of his punches reportedly hit an officer. As officers tried to detain him, he allegedly pulled away and threw punches until one of the officers took him to the ground, where officers handcuffed him. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Norman, whose address is listed as Valdosta, Georgia, has been charged with resisting an officer with violence and domestic battery. He has no local criminal history, and Judge Sean Brewer set bail at $11,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The lack of respect for law enforcement permeates society.

  • Disappointed in Judge Sean Brewer for setting such a recklessly low bail. This criminal is going to bond out for 10% ($1,100) and then he has a pretty easy decision to make:

Stick around town and wait to be tried for beating a woman and assaulting police officers in front of a crowd of witnesses, or skip town and disappear into Valdosta, Atlanta, etc.

Weak judges just encourage this kind of violence.

  • He will go back to valdosta. If he was in Ga. He would have received some swamp justice for assaulting cops. Judges seem to hold people more accountable in Ga. then here.

  • 1,100.00 to bail out…God help the family. This dude is some kind of psycho.
