Man arrested for stealing cell phones from UPS packages
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kenny Donnell Roberts, 42, was arrested on a warrant for stealing eight cell phones from UPS packages and pawning at least six of them.
A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that on October 13, 2025, Roberts was employed with UPS and stole several packages that contained eight cell phones with a total value of $1,455.50. The investigation found that six of the phones were pawned at EcoATM vending machines, using Roberts’ driver’s license and thumbprint, and in each case, Roberts attested that he was the owner of the phone.
Roberts has been charged with dealing in stolen property, grand theft, and providing false information during a pawn transaction. He has four felony convictions (two violent) and six misdemeanor convictions (three violent) and was released from state prison in 2012 after serving a ten-year sentence for aggravated assault. Judge James Colaw set bail at $25,000 in the warrant he issued for Roberts’ arrest on January 12.

Maybe he can get a new job with the city of Gville? I hear they don’t base their hiring decisions on criminal background checks? I guess criminal behavior will get him ‘style’ points.
I guess the local UPS aligns with the City of Gainesville when it comes to criminal background checks for employment.
So UPS is kind enough to employ a convicted felon. Who turns around and steals again,
This person is Exhibit A of why companies don’t want to hire felons. Think about it when you whine about how you can’t get a job.
Another repeat offender, go figure!
