Man arrested for trying to drag girl out of church service

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Fred Lee Watson, Jr., 45, was arrested yesterday evening and charged with felony child abuse and disruption of a religious assembly after allegedly trying to drag a girl out of a church service.

At about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, Watson reportedly knocked on the window and opened the door during a church service at We’re for Jesus Christian Center, 2006 E. University Avenue, in an attempt to get the attention of the girl and another person.

Watson then allegedly grabbed the girl by the arm, and she pulled away from him, saying she didn’t want to talk to him. He allegedly continued to try to take her out of the church.

Two witnesses reportedly told a Gainesville Police Department officer that Watson forcibly tried to take the girl outside.

Watson has several misdemeanor convictions for driving without a valid license, battery, and domestic battery. He is being held on $10,000 bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • I knew there were many who didn’t believe in the church but this is pretty ridiculous. You would think he would welcome having a relationship with someone who attended church.

Then again, we only know his age, (45), not hers. If she’s a minor, should he become a eunuch?

  • Was it his child? Tell the truth! I am sick of media always telling half the story. Destroying peoples reputation, with half facts.

    • What does it matter how old the young lady was. Disruption of church service is not necessary. Could have waited and then talked to her instead of being so angry. Sorry but I don’t see this ever being allowed. There were many other avenues to handle situation. This is what is wrong with people today. No respect!

  • People will lie on you to make you look bad. People that know me knows how I feel about my kids. People needs to tell the truth.
