Man arrested for video voyeurism in Library West restroom
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bryan James Shuping, 55, was arrested yesterday and charged with video voyeurism and battery after allegedly taking a video of a man using a urinal in a restroom at Library West on the University of Florida campus.
At about 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, University of Florida Police Department Officers responded to a restroom at the library, where the victim said he had seen a phone pointed at him from within a stall while he was using a urinal. The victim said he confronted the owner of the phone, who admitted taking a video of him, and when he said he was calling the police, the suspect pushed him out of the way and left the restroom.
Officers located Shuping a short time later. Post Miranda, Shuping reportedly said he had been watching videos on his phone and dropped the phone while in the stall.
Shuping reportedly gave consent for officers to look at his phone, and officers reportedly found a video of the victim on the phone. Shuping reportedly changed his story at that point and admitted taking the video.
Shuping’s address is listed as Trenton, but court documents indicate that he has lived in Alachua County for 55 years; court documents also state that he is unemployed. He has two felony convictions (one violent) and 14 misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2009. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $20,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
Where he’s going he can look at Ds for free..
I’m guessing the compulsion he can’t restrain is the filming of it? Thousands of sites online can give the peep show legally.
I thought that this was the kind of person that these college students have been trying to embrace.
This.^^^
Funny I remember when I still went there, I used to argue with the dumb brainwashed lefties about the UF libraries’ “open door” policies. Why, I asked, is Marston Science Library, a place chalk full of textbooks on nuclear engineering and differential geometry, open to every vagabond and miscreant that wants to walk in? After all, it’s my tuition paying for the place, not the bum’s. They go there to steal student’s laptops and destroy the bathrooms. Anyways, some dumb leftie kid replied with “because we’re a PUBLIC university” and thought he was really witty.
Marston in particular may have changed that policy (under the guise of Covid) – now you need to show UF ID to enter, I believe. But apparently Library West is still wide open to the weirdos creeping around the streets of Gainesville.
They are open during normal hours for everyone, I believe. But UF won’t hesitate to trespass you from campus if you are causing trouble. A lot of people use the libraries for research. Undergrads just go there to study.
Most of these perverts are married. A phone call home to the wife would make great Easter Dinner conversation. I have to say if he would have pushed me he would have been eating a pink urinal cake. Sick people but maybe he can plead his peeping to the City DEI department. Ward will assist him.
Sounds like he’d be a candidate for a high-paying and high-responsibility job in the Xiden administration. He just hasn’t stolen any high fashion suit cases recently.
“Mom, can you pass the broccoli? Thank you. Oh, and I got a B+ on my spelling test – I did pretty good, huh?
Anyways… what’d you do today, dad?”
Was he employed at UF as a DEI administrator, is that why?
