Man arrested on DUI and drug charges after head-on collision

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ceferino Vasquez Velazquez, 31, was arrested early this morning on charges of DUI with property damage, cocaine possession, and driving without a valid license following a head-on crash in Gainesville.

Velazquez, whose address is in Alachua but is originally from Mexico and presented a U.S. Employment Authorization Card as his identification, was reportedly identified by witnesses as the driver in a car involved in a head-on crash at 4400 NW 6th Street, just after midnight.

The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that he could smell alcohol on Velazquez’s breath and that he was swaying and unable to stand properly. Velazquez reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was detained. In a search incident to arrest, 0.1 grams of cocaine were reportedly found in Velazquez’s pocket. A breath test reportedly gave results of 0.248 g/210L and 0.256 g/210L; any result over 0.08 g/210L is considered to be impaired under Florida law.

Velazquez has no local criminal history and has been released from the jail; bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • “…has no LOCAL criminal history and was (therefore) released…”, didn’t they CHECK out of county/state??

  • He’s gone. Won’t show for his court date and likely to do it again somewhere else in the Divided States of America. Keep up the ‘good’ work Joke Biden and the half of our country that has gone brain dead.
