Man charged with 2011 sexual battery on 7-year-old sentenced to one year in state prison and three years of probation

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Daniel Nicholas Mancil, 32, of Tallahassee, has been sentenced to one year and one week in state prison, followed by 36 months of sexual offender probation, after entering a plea of nolo contendere to attempted lewd and lascivious behavior on a child under 12. He will also be designated as a Sexual Offender.

Mancil was arrested in February 2023 and charged with sexual battery on a child under 12 and lewd and lascivious behavior on a child under 12, but the sexual battery charge was dropped and the lewd and lascivious behavior charge was reduced to attempted lewd and lascivious behavior as part of the plea agreement.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the victim came forward in May 2021 and said that she had been sexually battered when she was 7 years old. At the time, Mancil was 19. During a forensic interview conducted by the University of Florida Child Protection Team, the victim said she had been sexually battered by the defendant multiple times at multiple locations.

Following his initial arrest, Mancil was released after posting $125,000 bail and will receive two days of credit toward the sentence.

  • Who was the judge in this case (who failed miserably)? This is absolutely disgusting and is common in this district. It is time for a federal criminal investigation into the Florida family court system/judicial system. Judges who fail to protect the public should be immediately removed and attorneys who willfully represent these monsters. Please get involved in judicial reform; court watch… look up your judges rulings… vote these criminals out

  • Huh?? Disgusting. At minimum cut his wee wee off.

That kid will have mental problems the rest of his/her life.

  • I know him personally, he did not do this. It is a total fabrication. So yes, the judge did fail miserably, as someone said below. But not for the reason you think. Not everyone who is charged a crime is guilty. I hope that all you folks judging him below never get falsely accused by someone. I wouldn’t wish this kind of treatment on anyone.

    • I know him too.
      From birth.
Daniel got less time than he deserved. He’s a pedophile. He’s a narcissist. He’s violent.
And there are probably more victims.
He’s right where he should be. Away from women and children.

      • Man, you really DO know him. You described him to a t. I knew him well, way more than I cared to. When he was a kid, there were some people who felt sorry for him because he didn’t have a dad and tried to help him out, but he’d just use and take advantage of their kindness. All pedos, including him, should be under the jail. I hope more victims come forward, because I’m sure there are others.

    • Looks like you have been misled or manipulated too, “E”!
Read the laws on his crimes! Despicable! He’s actually lucky from what I’ve researched.

  • For all the condemnation here, the headline was deceptive. The battery charge was dropped, and the L&L was not described. Also, it happened 12 years ago. Realize, in today’s radical left world, it would have been almost impossible to prove innocence. The law used to require proof of guilt, but now only an accusation is necessary.

    • what does any of this have to do with today’s so called “radical left” world? newsflash, you wouldn’t know the radical left if it bit you on the ass- America’s democratic party is as centrist as it gets.

    • Comment in the Chronicle’s Facebook from the victim herself: “…the battery charge was dropped and the L&L was not described due to the plea deal that we agreed upon. it happened 12 years ago yes, which shows the impact this type of thing has on someone and the common silence that many victims have since they feel like they don’t have a voice. i agreed to this to avoid the months of trauma of going through a trial at the age of 19.”

  • This is beyond disappointing and disgusting! It happened numerous times in different locations! This isn’t a “misunderstanding” of what happened. This guy should never see the light again! 1 year….UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
