Man in pre-trial diversion agreement arrested for sexual battery of co-worker

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alexander Peter Roddy Myrin, 25, was arrested yesterday and charged with raping a co-worker; he entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement in June after being arrested on April 8 for interfering with the medical treatment of a patient during the UF Men’s Basketball National Championship celebration.

A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that the victim said she and Myrin worked together at a local restaurant and agreed to hang out at Myrin’s apartment on July 14; she said they discussed having sexual intercourse and their boundaries, and the victim said Myrin expressed desires that made her uncomfortable and she said she did not want to do those things, but he overpowered her and roughly raped her, including biting her and choking her. The victim said Myrin became more excited every time she told him to stop.

The officer reported that the victim showed him text messages between her and Myrin the next day, and Myrin reportedly apologized for bruising her and wrote that he “got ahead of himself.”

A nurse at a local hospital reportedly told the officer that the victim’s injuries were consistent with her account of the incident.

The officer monitored a phone call between the victim and Myrin, and Myrin reportedly said he didn’t want to hurt her and didn’t want to “mark her up”; he reportedly said he had gotten “ahead of myself,” apologized for hurting her and not being gentle, and said he would “accept the repercussions” because he was sorry he hurt her and “it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.”

Both Myrin and the victim reportedly spoke to a co-worker after the incident, and the co-worker reportedly said they both said the sex was initially consensual, and Myrin said he had established a safe word for the victim, but “when he gets excited, it’s very hard for him to stop because he is very sexual.”

Post Miranda, Myrin reportedly said he and the victim are co-workers and are not in a romantic relationship; he said the victim had called him that day after her shift, and he had tried to apologize because he didn’t want to hurt her. When the officer began asking questions about the details of the sexual act, Myrin reportedly asked for a lawyer.

Myrin had no criminal history when he was arrested on April 8 and charged with resisting an officer without violence for allegedly interfering with the medical treatment of an injured person during the UF Men’s Basketball National Championship celebration. On June 10, he entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement that would have dismissed the charge after six months if he did not violate the agreement, which includes a requirement that he “refrain from violating any federal or state law or county or municipal ordinance.”

Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • 😳 Dude looks like…
    Not a dude.

Before the criticism, it’s just an opinion based on an observation of one’s physical characteristics.

    • Yep- in prison it’ll get taken a whole lot further than him just looking like a girl.
They’ll have to keep him in protective custody for sure.

  • Workplace sex is too common on TV and movie dramas, comedies. Hollyweird and video games have “normalized” a lot of this, as well as shooting up things to solve problems.
It’s almost like a conspiracy to increase bad culture so lawyers will have more secure jobs. ACLUSPLCDNC 👹👺🤡👿💩

  • This reminds me of a young woman I dated about 15 years ago. She confided that she had fantasies involving consensual sexual violence. I couldn’t make myself cross that line, and I’m glad I didn’t. Consensus is consensus only until it isn’t, just like violence may not be real violence until it is. The guy should never have proposed the fantasy, and the girl should never have consented even to a safe word. Sad.
