Man on pre-trial release arrested for domestic battery and shattering window at motel

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Travis Denard Grigger, 44, was arrested early this morning and charged with domestic battery and throwing a brick through the window of a motel room, shattering the window.

At about 12:24 a.m. on December 26, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Baymont Inn (6901 NW 4th Blvd), where the victim said she had rented a motel room and invited Grigger, her boyfriend, to the room. She said her phone battery died before Grigger arrived, and when he got there, he was angry because she was not answering her phone. They argued, and the victim said that when Grigger got too close, she pushed him away with an open hand, and he punched her in the mouth. She said he grabbed her shirt, but she fought him off, he left the room, and she called law enforcement.

The deputy noted that the woman had dried blood on her lip and a ripped shirt, with bloodstains in several areas.

About an hour after he left, Grigger allegedly returned and tried to kick in the door but was unsuccessful. He then walked away, came back with a brick, and allegedly threw the brick through the window, shattering the glass; the damage is estimated at about $1,100. The deputy reported that this incident was captured by security cameras.

Deputies located Grigger, who was still at the Baymont Inn, and post Miranda, he reportedly denied all of the allegations and said he never met up with the victim at the Baymont Inn. The deputy noted that Grigger had some blood on his shirt and shorts, and Grigger reportedly said that was from an earlier incident in which he cut his hand while jumping a gate; the deputy noted that he did not see any fresh cuts on Grigger’s hand.

Grigger has been charged with felony domestic battery with a prior conviction and felony property damage. He has 22 felony convictions (seven violent) and 20 misdemeanor convictions (three violent) and has served eight state prison sentences, with his most recent release in February 2025. Grigger was arrested on September 29 for burglary and property damage, and although prosecutors initially indicated they wanted him held without bail until trial, they later withdrew that motion, and on November 14, Judge Denise Ferrero ordered Grigger released on his own recognizance. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $70,000 on the new charges.

  • 42 convictions. 10 violent and a Gainesville judge gives him ROR with no bail — to commit another violent crime while awaiting trial. Judges have a good gig for sure. Where will county government send his food stamps while he awaits trial?

    • I think Ferrero needs to be furloughed. I don’t believe her position is a lifelong appointment.

Did she not have access to his prior criminal history or was she worried about upsetting the locals? Either way, her version of the wheels of justice are off the rails.

    • The state needs to pass a law to hold these idiot, judges, responsible this many prior convictions. This bastard should be in prison and not walking the streets.

      • Lawyers control the legislation with their political donations. That’s why our insurances are so high as they won’t let tort reform pass.

  • great job judge! just outta prison for the eighth time and ror to go re offend, somethings to be done to correct this, as we all see
