Man on pre-trial release arrested for pointing a rifle and threatening to kill victims at northwest park
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jeffrey Scott Wallace, 40, was arrested yesterday for allegedly pointing a rifle at two victims in a June 21 incident near Massey (Westside) Park; he was also booked on warrants for failing to appear at hearings in two other cases.
At about 6:53 a.m. on June 21, Wallace allegedly pointed a rifle at two victims near Massey (Westside) Park. The victims said Wallace told the male victim he was going to kill him and made threatening statements to the female victim as she was walking away from him. Both victims said they were in fear for their lives.
When the male victim called 911, Wallace allegedly fled on his e-bike, followed by officers with their lights and sirens activated. Wallace eventually fled on foot, leaving his e-bike and rifle behind.
Wallace was arrested on June 29 near the same park, and a search incident to arrest reportedly produced several items of drug paraphernalia.
Wallace, who is described as homeless on a court document, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing with lights and sirens activated, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was also arrested on warrants for failing to appear at court hearings on previous cases with drug and shoplifting charges.
Wallace has seven felony convictions (non-violent) and three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2022. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $325,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“Wallace, who is described as HOMELESS on a court document, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a DEADLY WEAPON, fleeing with lights and sirens activated, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia”
Nothing to see here, there’s no “violent homeless crime crisis” in Gainesville, I don’t see any panhandling on 39th & Waldo, there’s no illegal encampments, they’re not carrying butcher 🔪knives, metal pipes, deadly weapons, or 🔫 rifles…the vagrants are all environmentalists …they don’t leave trash & litter where they flop, no sir!
Zinitz & Gardner: should the city have zero tolerance on panhandling and require Chief Moya & Grace Marketplace to make monthly reports before the commission on how they are reducing homeless crime and stopping prison releases from other counties being released here to receive benefits from Alachua County taxpayers? Buying motels to house them is not a solution…
Wait, there’s more‼️😳
“Wallace has seven felony convictions”❗️ …
what’s he doing with a rifle⁉️
They missed that charge… “convicted felon with gun”❗️..
I guess he missed the “prevent gun violence” poetry readings at Bo Diddley Plaza… Jake Fuller did a political cartoon about that a few weeks ago…
Send his sorry, thieving, violent ass back to Massachusetts where this lowlife was born. Having to PAY for his defense over and over again because he is a lazy slug who refuses to work for a living should tick off every taxpayer with a brain.
Why was he not charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon? Was the weapon not a firearm? If he had done that to me, he would have possibly been DRT, air rifle or not
I would be in fear for my life if he broke into my home @ 5 am looking for his “magic stick”, attacked me with a metal pipe, attacked me with a “broken booze” bottle, or came after me with a butcher knife 🔪!
Do you think throwing more tax money at the problem by having them talk with a sociologist or psychologist will help?
Incarceration works…
Don’t think incarceration works?
Then invite one into your home for 24 hours and see what happens…
