Man on probation and pre-trial release arrested for allegedly biting, scratching, and hitting officers
Staff report
ALACHUA, Fla. – Robert Lydell Sharp, 52, was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with driving with a suspended license, resisting an officer, and two counts of battery on an officer.
An Alachua Police Department officer pulled Sharp over at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night because the officer knew Sharp’s license was suspended and the car’s tag was expired. The officer reported that Sharp spontaneously acknowledged that he knew his license was suspended.
After Sharp was placed in a patrol vehicle, he reportedly said he was suffering from a medical emergency and that he “knew the system” and was going to tell others that the bruises on his head and face were inflicted by law enforcement officers; he then allegedly began hitting his head and face against metal surfaces in the patrol vehicle. He reportedly demanded to be taken to a hospital, so the officer took him to a free-standing emergency room.
When Sharp arrived at the emergency room, he allegedly became combative, shouting profanity, racial slurs, and threats at the emergency medical personnel and officers, saying, “There’s gonna be a fight.”
Sharp reportedly had to be physically restrained multiple times to protect medical and law enforcement staff; no medical issues were reportedly found.
After Sharp was medically cleared, he allegedly resisted being placed into a patrol vehicle by kicking, biting, hitting, and scratching officers, leaving visible scratches and bruises. He allegedly said he wanted officers to harm him so he could sue the agency. He allegedly bit an officer’s foot and hit multiple officers.
After being subdued by multiple officers, he was transported to the jail.
Sharp is on probation in Leon County for battery on an officer and is on pre-trial release in Alachua County for four counts of battery on an officer or EMT and one account of assault on an officer or EMT. He has eight felony convictions (six violent) and 37 misdemeanor convictions, along with 19 cases in which all charges were dropped. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $190,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
That race card came out faster than a Tesla Plaid’s 0-60 time didn’t it..
@YoursTruly, Really? Do you know this man? I do and can tell you he is dangerous, spiteful who has been in trouble since 1990. Being a convicted felon he knows right from wrong! Robert is very well known in Alachua for his behavior and can tell you with no hesitation this has NOTHING to do with his race. Please make a trip to APD and submit your application for an officer!
@Kiki
He didn’t say it had anything to do with the man’s race. He said, the man played the race card. Big difference.
Thank you for making that clear! My apologies to TrulyYours🙏🏼
@Kiki you’re very welcome and gracious, takes a really good person to say I was wrong and I’m sorry.
The usual suspects
Another golden goose given high bail in wintertime. Why not let these creeps freeze?
“Bit an officer’s foot…” Okaaay; if it was in a shoe, no problem unless he has sharpened teeth. If it was not in a shoe, why wasn’t it?
LOL
To bad when he was biting the leo foot that didn’t kick him to sleep, should have been able to give him something to cry about.
Thank you Judge M-J, your bond tells me you know this “man” has no business being on the streets (& of course he’s probably being held on no bond on the other violations)
His confidential informant days are over!
52 years old and still acting like a toddler having a tantrum.
45 prior convictions
Put that rabid animal down!
In the world of technology in-car police cams should have collected the actions of the guy so after the case is closed it can be sold to bloopers show. He must one the rocket scientists who gave up his career to be a senior crash dummy. He should gave been sentenced to life in prison as a career offender years ago.
