Man on probation arrested after allegedly hitting man with beer can, spitting on officer
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Antonio Miranda, 51, was arrested last night and charged with simple battery and battery on a law enforcement officer after allegedly hitting another man with a beer can and spitting on an officer.
At about 7:25 p.m. last night in the area of 1600 W. University Avenue, Miranda was reportedly talking to another man when he intentionally hit him in the chest with an unopened can of beer. The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that he had seen Miranda with several cans of beer about an hour before the incident.
Post Miranda, Miranda denied hitting the victim.
The officer reported that as he was escorting Miranda into the jail, Miranda said he was going to kill the officer and spit on him.
Miranda has four felony convictions (two violent) and 29 misdemeanor convictions. He was convicted of indecent exposure of sexual organs on June 6 and was sentenced to one year of probation; conditions of his probation include not possessing alcohol and completing a substance abuse treatment program. The last event on that case docket is a June 29 order to transport him to a treatment center.
Bail information is unavailable on weekends.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
I hope the read him his Miranda rights
I was going to make some jokes on this one. I decided to spare you guys. Your welcome.
Hopefully he has judge Colaw since he’s the only judge in our liberal ass county who will send him to prison instead of reinstating his probation with more charges. It’s pretty sickening the amount of money wasted on probation every month violating the same people and then they’re out again.
No money is wasted because the offender pays costs of supervision
Pays on paper. Can’t get blood from a turnip.
WYF was he loose and so close to campus? Hasn’t our STUPID “justice” system learned anything?
Maybe the judge will go easy on him if he hit him with a Bud Light?
I know this guy. He’s a bad alcoholic. I personally never drank with him. But he loves getting drunk.
As a former alcoholic myself, I sincerely hope he simply gets tired of drinking and starts holding himself accountable.
He is in mental health has been for years. I’ve run into many times. He is usually drunk during the encounters. He always gets a slap on the wrist after 45-60 days in the county and then released with another strike on the record.
