Man on probation arrested after allegedly ramming ASO vehicles and then fleeing on foot

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Trever Arnett Strawder Jr., 26, was arrested yesterday after allegedly ramming deputies’ vehicles and then fleeing on foot before being apprehended by a K-9.

On September 3, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office received information indicating that Strawder, a wanted suspect, was in a vehicle in Alachua County and might be armed.

At about 4:41 p.m. on September 3, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a gray Nissan Altima in the 3300 block of SW Williston Road for a window tint violation and a border around the tag. The Nissan initially pulled over, but as soon as the deputy opened the door of his patrol vehicle, the Nissan pulled back out onto SW Williston Road, where it crashed into an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) unmarked vehicle and continued fleeing.

When another unmarked ASO vehicle attempted a box-in tactic, the Nissan rammed that vehicle, totaling the ASO vehicle. Although the Nissan was disabled, it continued for a short distance before the driver, later identified as Strawder, got out and ran.

A deputy and two K-9 teams pursued him on foot, giving commands to stop. A K-9 was released and successfully apprehended Strawder; the deputy reported that when he approached, Strawder was grabbing the K-9 around the mouth in an attempt to control the dog.

Strawder was also booked on warrants for violating his probation in two cases, both involving possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Strawder has been charged with fleeing from law enforcement with lights and sirens active, resisting an officer without violence, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and driving with a suspended license. He has a juvenile criminal history between 2010 and 2014 and four adult felony convictions (two violent); he has served three state prison sentences, with his most recent release in July 2024. He is on probation until July 2027, and this arrest is his second violation of probation. Judge Adam Lee ordered him held without bond until the probation violation cases are resolved, and he set bail at $1,000,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
