Man on probation arrested for battery that left woman with “likely permanent damage” to her face

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Marquise Taiwan Rollins, 34, was arrested yesterday morning on a warrant for felony battery against a former girlfriend and her sister; the attack reportedly left the former girlfriend with “likely permanent damage to her nose, face, and mouth.”

On December 27, Rollins was reportedly given a ride from Lake City to Alachua by his former girlfriend and her sister, and the victims told an Alachua Police Department officer that Rollins began acting in an erratic and frightening manner when they arrived in Alachua, so they drove him to his grandmother’s house.

When they dropped him off, he allegedly told his former girlfriend to get out of the car and began punching her in the face, resulting in a broken nose that “appeared crumpled upon her face” and blood spattered on the ground, the car, and the victim’s clothing.

The first victim’s sister got out of the car to confront Rollins, and he allegedly punched her in the head, leaving a large bruise. Rollins then fled the area.

Rollins has been charged with felony battery and battery with a previous conviction, both felonies. He has four felony convictions (one violent) and eight misdemeanor convictions (three violent). He is currently on probation for possession of methamphetamine. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $100,000.

  • Any man that puts his hands on a woman should be euthanized. We used to slap little punks like him around in prison and take their canteen.

  • I’ve got no compassion/respect/sympathy for any “man” who attacks a woman.
Time to go find the lady with the bolt cutters.

  • This is no man. An animal who has no business on the streets. Removal from the herd for the better good of the herd.

    • I agree with you but please an animal wouldn’t do this. I try to refrain from using animal instead I use “savage”.

  • We need really severe punishment for these violent criminals. Why should victims suffer so as not ‘hurt criminals feellings’? So tired of people making excuses for criminals. And STOP giving criminals ‘luxuries’!

  • What a POS. Throw the book at this dangerous look. He doesn’t deserve to live in society with the rest of us.

  • How our “Justice system” could allow an animal with a criminal history such as his to be walking the streets is total disrespect for the rest of society! Look at his history!!! He is an evil animal. For crying out loud don’t give him a chance to kill someone next time!! Please put that away for life with no parole!!! How stupid are our judges???!!!

  • Until culture changes this type of lifestyle will continue. I will bet this isn’t the first woman he abused. Where are all the women’s groups? They should be at every court event. He will be in jail making phone calls paid by taxpayers, not free, intimidating the victims family. Instead of books like “A for Activist” kids should be reading books titled “B for Woman Beater” and what a disgrace it is to touch a women.

  • Why do they have bail for this kind of person, lock him up and keep him away from normal people.

  • Maybe it’s time to go back to medieval public punishment and start dealing with the monsters! Clearly they’re not afraid of jail!
