Man on probation arrested for fleeing at 130 mph, driving through yards in Waldo
Staff report
WALDO, Fla. – Mitchell Craig Griffin, Jr., 21, of Waldo, was arrested last night and charged with fleeing, resisting an officer without violence, and drug possession after allegedly driving 130 mph on Waldo Road and driving through yards while fleeing from a trooper.
A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper reportedly saw a Toyota traveling southbound on SR 24 at about 8:01 p.m. last night and estimated it was traveling at about 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. The trooper reportedly moved behind the Toyota and turned on lights and sirens, and the Toyota reportedly made a U-turn and began driving northbound toward Waldo. The trooper reported that the Toyota sped up to over 130 mph while fleeing.
The Toyota reportedly entered the city limits of Waldo and drove into a residential neighborhood to the northeast of CR 1475 and NE 148th Avenue. The trooper reported that the Toyota ran stop signs and almost crashed into several vehicles and then cut through multiple residential yards. The trooper tried to conduct a PIT maneuver twice, but both attempts were unsuccessful.
The Toyota reportedly stopped at the intersection of NE 150th Avenue and NE 139th Terrace, and the driver got out of the vehicle and lay down on the ground, where he was taken into custody. A search of Griffin reportedly produced a small bag of marijuana. A search of the vehicle reportedly produced an open bottle of liquor and two digital scales.
Griffin has four felony convictions (none violent) and is on probation in Marion County for grand theft of a motor vehicle. In 2021, he was arrested in Gainesville and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and illegally carrying a concealed firearm, but the charges were later dropped. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $75,000 and set a curfew between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â

In light of many recent events, the local judicial system may want to forego any probationary status.
It’s clearly not working.
He needs the gape effect
Gape is his 1st concern.
It’s Shane. The Pitmaneuver didn’t eliminate the issue like the last one did I would love to see law in Florida where judges and states attorneys could be held liable for any damage or lives that someone took after being released on probation.
Convicted felon, on felony probation, drugs. Meeting a concrete pole would save us from him and a lot of money wasted on his prison stay.
He had to throw his gun and bag of dope out the window before stopping.
At least a normal name plus
lots of hair to pull at Raiford.
What do you care what someone’s name is? How does that affect your life in ANY way?
rename yo self as rainbow vag
raiford awaits.
Another frequent golden goose put on high summertime bail, so he won’t flee to another cooler (Blue) state up north before fall. 🤡👿👹

Probation=Go out and do it again.
Cut him some slack, he was late to bible study
As GH mentioned in this piece, hold the judge and anyone else who allows a danger to society like this character to go free pending trial.
Florida has more than enough villains to keep its residents awake at night.
If you don’t have a gun, then go buy one. Practice with it, carry it everywhere.
You are 100% correct I carry 24 7 and I’m real familiar with Florida law stand your ground law and I can assure you, I’m not afraid to use it
I guess I just don’t understand how you can get charged with possession with intent while having a gun and have the charges dropped. Am I missing something?
only the judge.
Cut the guy some slack, he was just trying to get to calculus class on time.
I’m amazed a Toyota can do 130 MPH. Who knew?
So…. That one incident about 6 weeks ago in Waldo, where the Honda CRV was rolled into a concrete light pole, and killed the occupants as a result of a pit manuver by pursuing law enforcement officers, didn’t really teach any of you jitterbugs anything did it?
they belive they are privilaged and above the law
Johnny Cash – great point!
