Man on probation arrested for possession of gun and drugs
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ta’vion Latrell Smith, 20, was arrested yesterday and charged with illegal possession of a firearm and marijuana possession, in violation of the terms of his probation.
At about 6 p.m. yesterday, Smith was reportedly a passenger in a car that was pulled over for a stop sign violation. A K-9 that was deployed during the traffic stop alerted to contraband in the car, and Smith reportedly stated spontaneously that he smoked “weed” before getting in the car.
A search of the vehicle reportedly produced a small marijuana “blunt” in the center console, another blunt in the passenger door, and a loaded Springfield Hellcat firearm under Smith’s seat.
Post Miranda, Smith reportedly denied knowing anything about the gun but later admitted the gun was his. He also reportedly said the blunt in the passenger door was his.
On April 18, 2022 (Easter Sunday), Smith was charged with possession of a concealed firearm without a permit after allegedly running from officers who were investigating a physical fight. Smith reportedly had a Taurus G2 firearm in his pocket when officers caught up with him in a downtown parking garage. Smith entered a plea of nolo contendere to the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in state prison. Judge William Davis ordered that adjudication of guilt be withheld and sentenced Smith to 18 months of probation; under his probation conditions, he is not permitted to possess a firearm or use drugs.
Smith has one felony conviction and is on probation. Judge Thomas Jaworski ordered him held on no bond for violating probation and set bail at $105,000 on the new charges.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
And of course we’ll never learn where the guns came from or how he obtained them.
i really think no one cares about that and why is that?
When will Democrat judges learn that withholding adjudication (wrist slapping) does not work on gun crimes. Deterrence will only happen when serious prison sentences happen for violation of all gun statutes.
While some argue we should have more laws preventing access to firearms, we have people like this who feel current laws don’t apply to them. Why should we expect new laws to be obeyed?
If we prevent access to guns it stands to reason we’ll all be deemed criminals because the “law abiding” citizen will have to seek out another criminal element to fill the needs for protecting their life, their family and their property.
Some criminals do it, why shouldn’t we? Our level would effectively be lowered in the continued efforts by some to “even the playing field.” I guess that’s what liberals want…equity for all.
I don’t think so. Enforce the laws, use the right you’ve been privileged to have by not being a criminal and be prepared to exercise that right if need be. (if legally able)
Well said.
In order to improve his chances of becoming a useful member of society when he is released, they should do him a favor and remove the large spider on his head before it gets any bigger.

God, that looks so stupid. 🙄
It’s a spider or he had a crash landing and bent up his whirly bird rotors.
I wonder how that job search is going for him…
Another punk on the road to success. We’ll be paying for him for years.
Now there’s a real life ‘court jester’ for ya
Once upon a time there were judges on the 8th circuit bench that followed the rule of law. With-hold was not in their vocabulary, ankle monitors hadn’t been invented yet.
You were found guilty, off to the joint you went! The state attorney was a conservative who didn’t tolerate spineless prosecutors in his ranks.
Ahhh, but that was back then. What a mess we have now.
i really was suprised based on his appearance, i thought he was a ceo of a local company!
I’ll bet he’s never worked a day in his life.
Little known fact: If you put the shape of his hair into Google translate, it comes back “semaphore for “I plan to die in Raiford serving life and working on my collection of neck tattoos””
