Man on probation arrested for throwing objects through windows of courthouse, funeral home display, bank, church, and cars

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Michael Andrew Stallworth, 27, was arrested yesterday for allegedly throwing objects through windows at the courthouse, a funeral home, a bank, a church, and two cars.

At about 3:20 p.m. on March 1, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a report of broken doors and windows at the Criminal Courthouse (220 S. Main Street). The deputy reported that surveillance video showed Stallworth throwing bricks through the front glass doors and windows of the courthouse, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage. Stallworth reportedly got on a bus and left the area before he could be apprehended.

At about 11:35 a.m. on March 17, Stallworth allegedly threw four rocks at the carriage display in front of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home (404 N. Main St.), shattering eight glass windows that were valued at $1,500 each, for a total of $12,000 in damage.

Next, Stallworth allegedly threw a stone and a concrete paver at two windows at Truist Bank (411 N. Main St.), shattering both windows; the objects landed inside the bank building. The responding Gainesville Police Department officer noted that the objects were large and heavy — the stone was about the size of a softball and weighed about five pounds, and the paver was about 12 inches square and weighed about seven pounds — and could have caused serious bodily injury or death to the people inside the bank. The damage was estimated at $4,000.

Next, Stallworth allegedly threw two stones and a wooden pole at the First United Methodist Church (419 NE 1st St.), shattering two stained glass windows at the church. The damage was estimated at $20,000, due to the unique designs of the windows.

Next, Stallworth allegedly threw a rock at the front and rear driver’s side windows of a 2024 Tesla Model 3 that was parked near the church, causing about $2,400 in damage.

Next, Stallworth allegedly threw a large rock at the front windshield and passenger side windows of a 2022 Tesla Model 3 that was parked near the church, causing about $2,000 in damage. Officers responding to the other reports noted that they saw Stallworth throwing rocks at the cars.

After Stallworth was apprehended, he reportedly stated spontaneously, “The bank, the funeral home, the church, and these vehicles. That’s all me, Michael Stallworth. I did it, nobody else.”

Post Miranda, when he was asked whether he understood his rights, he reportedly said, “No English.”

Stallworth has been charged with throwing a deadly missile into an occupied building and six counts of felony property damage; he was also booked for violating probation. He has two felony convictions (non-violent) and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent) and is on probation for throwing rocks at a car parked at the Alachua County Jail in May 2025, causing about $2,000 in damage.

Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail until the probation violation is resolved and set bail at $220,000 on the new charges.

  • Liberal ideas destroy our legal system, liberal judges, liberal lawyers have ruined our legal system. These people need to be kept in prison violent criminals need to be kept in prison so law abiding citizens don’t get hurt.

    • Unfortunately, most liberals don’t understand logic and they think the justice system is targeting minorities, who are committing the majority of crime. Don’t believe me? Reference the FBI crime statistics and use you conservative super powers as you scan the mugshots. Liberals not only can’t see the ‘forest for the trees’ they use it to virtue signal that they are compassionate while the rest of us are subject to the criminals acts and called white supremacists.

    • You are right, our Liberal President pardoned 1500 of those liberals who went to a peaceful protest on 1/6. He was just trying to protect us law abiding citizens, right.

      • Sorry Bill, but that ship has already sailed. After the Democrat lead ‘investigation’ they promptly destroyed all the so called ‘evidence’ before Trump was in office. Wonder why?

  • Maybe he is upset that his application for City Ambassador didn’t go through since there was not enough criminal history or experience to be considered for the job. Maybe this enough to get him closer then a stones throw to a prison sentence.

  • Broken windows are an early sign of a declining urban area.

Things going as planned by the ACLUSPLCDNC Party 👹🤡👺👿💩
