Man on probation arrested with gun

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ricardo Adonus Cooper, 19, was arrested yesterday and charged with resisting arrest without violence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

At about 1 p.m. yesterday, a Gainesville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a car in which Cooper was a passenger in the 2300 block of NE Waldo Road. While Cooper was lawfully detained, he allegedly started running and was arrested after a foot chase.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a 9mm handgun in his pocket.

Cooper has two felony convictions in St. Johns County and is on probation until 2028 for burglary of an unoccupied structure while wearing a mask. Bail information is unavailable because courts are closed today.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Again. By the way, that’s a statement, not a question. GPD should just stake out every felon in Gainesville. Recent, (very recent), history suggests if they target that group they’ll cut down on shootings and other crimes.
On second thought, they better not. Someone may claim they’re racially profiling and with Gainesville being broke, they can’t afford another lawsuit without raising our utility rates.

    • It perplexes me how Gainesville can be going broke with how much money they steal from the people who live here.

    • Ask GPD what DMC is… Disproportionate Minority Contact… Ask them how DMC theory/discovery led to going soft on juvenile crime and how it influenced crime rates.

  • Humidity messed up his whirly bird props. Again lift jail foundation up and insert under.

  • This clown needs some serious time in jail. He obviously doesn’t respect any laws. Great hairdo.

  • Do any of Gainesville’s and Alachua County’s finest felons ever get a jury trial or is it all summary justice via brokered plea deal?

  • A felon with a gun…should be 5 years mandatory to learn his lesson.
    5, 10, 20, life!

  • The city is preaching about gun violence wishing they could do more as in have their own set of laws.
The most important thing they can do is teach felons to read then explain the law that says felons can’t possess a firearm.
Also let GPD do their job no hand tying let them stop and frisk then request the governor to investigate the local DA’s and judges that refuse to lock them up or these ridiculous low bails

  • We all are quick to pass judgment on others than looking for a solution ! There are so much youths growing up without the knowledge of learning to pickup a trader ! Thieves comes in all forms! Not just a hair do !

    • This particular group commits 72% of all crime in the USA, 52% of all murders. Everything has been tried with them, trade schools included and they don’t want it. It’s easier to just collect your check.

      • To prove your point where are the most shootings in Gainesville? The Eastside so To who ever gave you a thumbs down here is the prove Guest is a 100% correct

  • Same old group doing the same old things. Love the “doo” by the way….absolutely hysterically funny!

  • He’s got to be the prettiest criminal we’ve seen in a long time, got to love them locks.

  • I’m the same age as this guy…my father owns guns…you don’t see me running around stealing shi with guns…smh(I’m black and white btw)
