Man on probation charged with marijuana possession

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Samonta Leondre James, 22, who is on drug offender probation, was arrested early this morning and charged with possession of marijuana.

A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that he pulled over the vehicle James was driving because it was being actively sought by detectives. Officers reportedly found about 8 grams of marijuana in his clothing during a search.

James pled nolo contendere to charges of possessing marijuana with intent to sell in three 2021 cases and was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 2.5 years of drug offender probation; the sentences for eight counts in three separate cases were served concurrently. One of the conditions of his probation is that he must abstain from alcohol and all illegal drugs.

James is being held without bond for violating probation and has a $10,000 bond for the new charges of marijuana possession and driving without a valid license.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The report states in part, “… he pulled over the vehicle James was driving because it was being actively sought by detectives.” Why was the vehicle being “actively sought”? At any rate, the dirtbag belongs in jail; he will never be a productive member of society. I’m sure his mother will say he’s a good boy, and his father is not available for comment.
