Man released from jail earlier in the day arrested for burglary after caller reported naked man trying to break into houses
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ernest Green, 68, was arrested late last night and charged with burglary after a caller reported that a naked man was trying to break into houses and had succeeded in entering a neighboring house through a broken window; Green had been released from jail earlier in the day.
At about 10:30 p.m. on August 29, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call about a naked man trying to break into houses in the 6300 block of NE 39th Boulevard, several miles east of the jail. The caller said the man had broken a window in the unoccupied house next to his and was inside the house.
The deputy reportedly found Green standing next to a shattered window inside the house and told him to exit the house through the same window. Once Green was out of the house, he was arrested.
Post Miranda, Green reportedly said he had just been released from the Alachua County Jail that day and had been walking a long time. The deputy reported that Green “could not answer questions properly and could not explain why he broke into the residence.”
Green was previously charged with battery on a pregnant victim in 2019, while he was a patient at the North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center. He was declared incompetent to stand trial multiple times but entered a plea of nolo contendere to the charge on August 28, was sentenced to 437 days in prison with credit for 437 days time served, and was released.
Green has five felony convictions (three violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He has served four state prison sentences, with his most recent release yesterday. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $75,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
I’m sure Poe or Ward would be willing to provide him a temporary residence until he can find another place to break into – NOT!
One might think Eastman or Willets would step up – NOPE!
They’re still the hypocrites today that they were 4 years ago. The idiot voters in Gainesville still haven’t figured it out though.
5 of them at least. Bet they haven’t offered him a place to stay either.
Seems Gainesville is full of hypocrites.
The majority of people in the city of
Gainesville and Alachua county vote Democratic. If any of you fascist republicans don’t like it, TOO BAD!
Look up the word ‘fascist’ and you will find it is actually more fitting for the Democrats and their agenda.
Of course you do. Given the results, tells us all we need to know about your level of intelligence, and the level of hypocrisy.
Incompetent to stand trial, so release him.. WTF. NFETC is the “treatment jail” Why was he allowed near a pregnant woman? Where to now?
SCUMMY courts til now groomed that old monster. Now we have to pay for his mental healthcare.

Sounds like he has quite the ‘resume’? Maybe he could be released into the cities new “ambassador in training’ program?
This man should have been released and provided with an electric bike so that he did not have to walk. After I win which seems very likely we will probably close most jails, give 100,000 to give new homebuyers a place in your new Eastside development. Are you with me????
Criminals before victims. This is the new way.
This is one of the reasons we need to house the homeless — to protect ourselves. It sounds like he was looking for a place to sleep and/or was purposely trying to get locked up again… so he’d have a place to stay.
The church is supposed to help their fellow man.
Exercising and execution of your 2nd A rights and stand your ground by the homeowner would have ended the this animal’s terror. We would not have to worry why Paulie would not take him to live with him.
