Man who allegedly threw GPS monitoring device in woods almost 2 years ago arrested, will be sentenced in seven cases

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Decedrick Savalas Presley, Jr., 23, was arrested overnight after allegedly leaving his GPS monitor in the woods in May 2022; at the time, he was out on bail after reaching a plea agreement in mid-April 2022 and was awaiting sentencing.

Presley was arrested in September 2021 for “numerous” burglaries; many items were reportedly recovered from a pawn shop and from his apartment after a search warrant was approved. Over the next few months, charges were filed in 13 cases. Presley posted bail on April 6, 2022, and signed a plea agreement in seven cases on April 14, 2022. The plea agreement is handwritten and difficult to read but appears to call for a little over 6.5 years in state prison, followed by 7 years of probation, along with various amounts of restitution payments to victims. Presley was scheduled to appear in court on May 5, 2022, to be sentenced in those seven cases.

On April 15, 2022, a relative wrote a letter to the judge in the case, describing Presley as “very reserved, quiet, timid, respectful, and appreciative.” The letter said Presley had “never been in trouble before” and was “terrified [of going to prison] and I could bet my life that he’d never commit another crime.” The relative offered to bring Presley to live with her and provide him with a job and volunteer work. She asked the judge to give Presley probation.

However, on May 5, 2022, Presley’s GPS monitor was found in the woods behind the Burger King in Alachua, and a warrant was issued for his arrest; he remained free until he was arrested early this morning.

Presley, who is described as homeless in court documents, has no local convictions except for the seven cases awaiting sentencing (because the final hearing has not been held, he has not been adjudicated guilty in those cases); court documents indicate that he was also arrested in Missouri in 2023. He has four pending felony cases on top of the seven cases awaiting sentencing. He is being held without bond in the seven cases (24 charges) that were awaiting sentencing when the GPS monitor was found. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $50,000 for tampering with a GPS device and $2,000 on an additional charge of petit theft; Presley has not yet been booked on the four pending felony cases.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Gee Whiz, two years on the lame. I guess this timid, quiet, reserved animal could help himself from fleeing the state and committing other crimes. Poor Decedrick so misunderstood and demographically challenged. Maybe now he can face the music for his actions.

    • Animal???? It’s funny how someone get arrested for using gift cards is called an ANIMAL!! You read an article posted and ran with your opinions that doesn’t matter!! The way you speak of someone you don’t know shows your no higher or better than him!! You people never cease to amaze me!

      • 24 charges in seven cases. 2021 arrested for several burglaries. A little more than using a single gift card. He jumped supervision and fled the state. A thief is nothing more than a POS taking someone’s hard earned property. BURGLARY is a felony under state law and hopefully he will break into the right person’s home who has no issue with dispatching rabid animals. Culling for the better of the community. Put that in your kumbya pipe and smoke it.

        • Again if you have know knowledge on the facts, you shouldn’t speak on it!!!! I’ve researched people who have committed the same crime but of different race and has gotten charged way less! 7 years probation and 6.5 years or imprisonment is ludicrous! I’m not saying what he did was right, but we all know how this fair country we live in sentence young black men, black men in general! So put that in your pipe and choke off it!!! This got more attention than the white women who killed her ex husband and his girlfriend. When she committed the crime a lot of you had excuses, empathy and sympathy for her!!!

          • If you read my comments about the doper who shot those people I didnt give her a pass. Beside that as an educated black American male I know what I speak about. I guess you didnt see that coming either. Choke on that……

          • Everyone should be held to the same standard of the law. Show some examples of the same crime where race played a factor of punishment and everyone I am sure will agree with you. Nothing should ever be racial and the law should never discriminate.

      • Your words are not fair at all. He is not arrested for using gift cards (unless you agree assets of others are his free gift cards!). I am a victim. My items including my laptops (tons of my important data) and quite a few stuff were sold by him to a pawn shop. I did not get any of them back today. It was a very tough and dark time in my life. He is such a jerk and a nightmare for the entire city.

      • I dont worry about that living a clean Christian life abiding by God, and the laws if the land. So I’m pretty sure I will never see the inside of a jail or prison in handcuff. Sorry to burst your liptard liberal bubble.

        • I thought the same thing until I was falsely accused with no evidence or corroborating witnesses and arrested and held in jail for 10 months. It’s not as simple as it seems

        • That sounds just like something Jesus would say (or not), and you sound like a prick! 🤣😂

        • If you so-called live a clean Christian Life maybe you should read a scripture in the Bible Matthew 7 it says do not judge or you too will be judged or in the same way you judge others you will be judged and with the measure you use it will be measured to you… So pretty much on the day of your judgment you will be just the same way you have judge others and maybe you should continue reading that over and over again every day yes people make mistakes but it’s not up to you or anyone else to judge only by God but I don’t really care and some people need to be reminded and what you do with that information is up to you I could care less I have way too many problems of my own you have a blessed day and again that scripture is Matthew 7

  • Prison is easier than looking in the rear view mirror and over your shoulder 24/7. The hardest thing in prison is when your butt ass naked in front of fifty butt ass naked dudes on intake and the guard says spread your cheeks and cough.

  • What part of, “Don’t take this off,” did he not understand? The same part that states, “felons aren’t permitted to have firearms”?

On April 15, 2022, a relative wrote a letter to the judge in the case, describing Presley as “very reserved, quiet, timid, respectful, and appreciative.” The letter said Presley had “never been in trouble before.”

Sure has them fooled doesn’t he?

No matter the intent, the reasons behind it, can’t fix most criminals and people who don’t want to be.

    • Some people didn’t complete grade school, and it shows! He’d never been in trouble before this, and although he was wrong, he could’ve taken those things and pawned them to survive and fled out of fear! A letter written on his behalf, was that person’s account of his character, which is in line with his criminal record, before this incident! This made the paper, but the crimes community some of our city officials in this FAIR town, are being swept under the rug!!! 👀😳

      • Pawned stolen stuff “to survive?”
With all the places that have been hurting for employees the past few years….try again!
There are plenty of places hiring right now, which has been the case for some time. Because people like this guy just don’t want to work & earn an honest dollar.

        • I literally do Uber eats on a bicycle up to the point where someone stole my bike I still find ways to do a little bit of Uber eats delivering if a person wants to work they’re going to find work no matter what

      • Really are you that dense to believe that. I got some property under the golden gate bridge if you are interested in buying. One’s born every minute.

    • Define “FAIR!” Is FAIR, a woman, shooting her baby’s father and murdering another woman on Christmas Day, and you all feel sorry for her because she may have experienced childhood trauma? Is FAIR the molestation accusations and student’s being paid to be quiet from local officials, or is FAIR, an athlete raping a young lady and tossing her body behind a garbage can, and he only gets 6 months, because of who his parents are, the color of his skin, and how much money they have?! What is your definition of FAIR? Did he pawn your fishing rod?!?!

  • It’s good to find out all facts before publishing a story!! It’s so much more to be reporting in Gainesville instead of someone who’s been in trouble for the first time!! We hide the real things that are going on around Gainesville by posting things as like this.

      • You have to be out of your mind to think that the court system doesn’t lie!! It’s been plenty of sentences over turned because of wrongful convictions!! You want to be relevant for what???? Sounds like you’re one of our great citizens that wants to make AMERIKKA GREAT AGAIN!!! Post your name so I can search your records to see if you have a clean past……

        • As an educated American of this great country I fly my flags high and proud. And yes as I said earlier I am highly educated black man who also flies my Trump Flag high and proud too. I see through the liberal BS most liberals try and brainwash minorities with. It just sucks to be you because you cant do any better than have a hissy fit about. Why do you need my name so bad you planning a visit…..

  • It’s always nice to see the family members and baby mama’s of these 💩’s commenting on the stories about how they dindu nuffin. Eerily similar to the letter the relative wrote the judge about what a good boy he is. Enjoy prison Mr. Presley.

  • Sully Eanes has been in trouble multiple times. He just got arrested for way more charges and similar charges of this man, but yet he has a bond of 5700 and he tried to bribe the officer with 15,000 dollars. Yet he’s gotten a slap on the risk!! Loving this Fair world we live in. The crimes black men commit, the punishment is way more harsher than a white man who’s committed the same crime or worse!! Both parties are wrong but yet the young black man is being called and animal! So what do we call Mr. Eanes? Both have committed crimes and have to pay for their actions yet one is given a break! Though they both made bad decisions they are still SOMEBODY!! People can be so ignorant and that’s why we will continue to live in this divided world!!! Sad

  • Decedrick Savalas? I read mug shots just for these absurd names.

I’d say that a lot of them look like the parents just shook up a Scabble cup of letters and gave them a throw. But I doubt many of these folks play a spelling/crossword game.
