Man with 21 convictions arrested on drug trafficking and firearm charges
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Harvey Jamar Davenport Jr., 52, was arrested last night after a deputy conducted a traffic stop on his bicycle and reportedly found 40 grams of fentanyl, a firearm that had been reported missing out of Georgia, cocaine, and marijuana.
At about 10 p.m. on March 24, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a bicycle in the 1000 block of SW 61st Street because it didn’t have a rear red reflector. The deputy reported smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from Davenport and his backpack, and Davenport reportedly said he did not have a medical marijuana card.
When Davenport removed his wallet from his pocket, the deputy reported that loose marijuana fell out of his pocket.
A probable cause search of Davenport and his backpack reportedly produced about 28 grams of marijuana, about 1.7 grams of cocaine, and about 40 grams of fentanyl in powder and pill form, along with a loaded 9mm pistol that was reported missing in May 2025 in Georgia.
Davenport has been charged with possession of trafficking quantities of fentanyl, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of cocaine. He has 13 felony convictions (nonviolent) and eight misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2015. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $380,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

He probably had that bail money in his pocket. I don’t know who is dumber. Him or the judge.
I wonder when Gainesville placed a Priority on stopping people missing a Reflector on a Bicycle? Why is it we act surprised when Non Violent person with drug habit and record returns to dealing drugs because there most likely were No Other options for him. Most of you talk a good talk about wanting to reform past offenders but then offer no path for success or recovery.
He was dirty, got caught, didn’t run or resist which makes many of us wonder if some arent returning to crime for security of Jail and Roof, medical care, dental care and 3 square meals. Just saying maybe we aren’t as guiltless as we pretend to be in reoccurring crime
Here’s are reason to prioritize arresting this guy: He had 40 grams of fentanyl on him. If 2 milligrams is a lethal dose, 40 grams is enough to kill 20,000 people.
This is not some local weed man supplementing his income. He is actively vending lethal poison in the community and should be charged with attempted murder.
When is Lawyer DeSantis going to do something? Too many taxpayers have been extorted to build fancy new downtown courthouses while their jury luncheon restaurants are CLOSING due to the repeat offenders!
Abolish the ACLUSPLCDNC Party and put vetted citizen juries in charge of local courts, paroles, probations, and demote the judges and lawyers to stenographer level scribes.
🤡👿👹👺💩
One can’t help but wonder if these career criminals look in the mirror and say, “AGAIN?!?” as much as many of us do.
Many say the same thing regarding the stupid decisions made by most—if not all—politicians as well.
13 felony convictions, not arrest, convictions. And a truck load of misdemeanor convictions as well.
What does that tell you about the 8th judicial circuit? Like the days when Turner was a local judge.
‘No doper before him ever went to jail.’ Welcome to the machine folks.
The current criminal reform system is set up to punish lightly. No true meaning of reform or plans to prevent crimes from happening again.
This bust saved many lives. fentanyl is the drug of choice currently. Marijuana is now laced with fentanyl. So scary, many high school kids smoke marijuana and do not know the real danger associated with drugs. marijuana is called the gateway drug, and it’s currently being laced with Fentanyl. So scary.
I bet he hopes he draws judge Rawls for his trial. Free….again after a reduced sentence.
