Man with warrant arrested after allegedly fleeing from traffic stop
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Timothy Levynche McCray, Jr., 31, was arrested early this morning after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop; he was also arrested on a warrant for threatening to kill an ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy reportedly saw McCray’s vehicle near NW 34th Street and NW 39th Avenue at about 12:36 a.m. on November 29, verified that McCray was the driver, and initiated a traffic stop. The deputy reported that McCray did not slow down, pull over, or stop but continued driving eastbound at about 55 mph in a 45 mph zone; McCray allegedly turned on NW 21st Drive and drove toward his house while the deputy attempted a PIT maneuver “due to the severity of his violent felony warrants.” The deputy reported that the PIT maneuver was unsuccessful, but the vehicle slowed down and McCray drove “at a very slow speed” until he was in front of his house. McCray was taken into custody at his house.
Post Miranda, McCray reportedly said he knew a law enforcement officer was behind him, but he believed the deputy was just trying to go around him.
McCray was issued citations for driving an unregistered vehicle and having a tag that was not assigned to the vehicle and arrested for fleeing an officer in a patrol vehicle and the warrant.
The warrant was issued after a sworn complaint was filed about an incident on November 13 in which McCray entered an ex-girlfriend’s locked house and threatened to kill her and her boyfriend.
The victim reported that all the tires on her vehicle were found to be slashed on the morning of the incident and when she texted McCray about the damage, he called her names but did not deny slashing the tires. She said McCray “busted” into her room that evening, started fighting with her boyfriend, punched her in the face, and then pulled out a knife and said, “Imma kill you” to both of them. She called for her housemate, who pushed McCray out of the house while he reportedly shouted, “I’ll be back.”
The housemate reportedly told the responding Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that he heard a commotion in the victim’s room, went over, and saw that the door was open. When he entered the room, he saw McCray and the victim’s boyfriend fighting, so he separated them and then pushed McCray out of the house.
The victim said all the doors were locked, but it was possible that McCray had used an app to enter the house because he had previously lived there.
Traffic cameras reportedly showed McCray’s vehicle leaving the area about two minutes after the 911 call was received. The deputy tried to contact McCray by phone, but he did not answer. The deputy filed a sworn complaint charging McCray with burglary with assault/battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and property damage, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
McCray has two felony convictions (one violent) and two misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He was arrested in September on similar charges (armed burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, making a written threat to kill, and property damage), the State Attorney’s office filed a motion to hold him without bail until trial, and Judge William Davis granted the motion, but the charges were dropped about a month later, and McCray was released. He is again being held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Standard operating procedure for the culture of violence.
They used to say those cameras was to synchronize the traffic lights…😳
And that they didn’t have access to them.
