Man’s 8-month sexual relationship with 13-year-old girl leads to 9 felony charges

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Huy Quang Do, 25, was arrested yesterday for allegedly picking up a 13-year-old Lake City girl multiple times over an eight-month period and bringing her to his apartment for sex.

Law enforcement became involved on August 4, when an adult reported the victim missing and she was tracked to Do’s apartment at The Continuum (491 W. University Ave.); both Do and the victim were reportedly found inside the apartment. A search warrant was obtained for the apartment, and the victim’s purse, phone, and shoes were reportedly found in the apartment.

The investigation found that Do met the 13-year-old victim on Tinder, and they began regularly communicating by phone. In December 2025, Do allegedly drove to Lake City, picked up the victim, and brought her to his apartment in Gainesville, where they engaged in sexual intercourse. The victim reportedly said this happened at least five times, with the most recent incident on August 4.

The victim said she explicitly informed Do that she was under 18, and she said he was paranoid about being seen with her in public because of this.

Post Miranda, Do reportedly acknowledged that he met the victim last winter and that he has traveled to Lake City “on numerous occasions” and brought the victim back to his apartment; he said the victim has slept over at his apartment several times. He said that although the victim slept in his bed on these occasions, he had never laid in his bed with her; when he was asked about the presence of his DNA on the victim, he reportedly said she might have taken advantage of him while he slept.

Do reportedly claimed throughout his interview that the victim had told him she was 19; however, he acknowledged that she appears to be “notably youthful,” and he said she has a curfew and “an apparent caretaker” at her residence. He also mentioned information about the victim’s mother that would only apply to the parent of a juvenile.

Do reportedly said there was “sexual tension” between him and the victim, but he said he is not sexually attracted to her; however, he also reportedly said he has told her that she is physically attractive.

Do reportedly admitted to meeting the victim on Tinder, which he acknowledged is mainly a dating app, and he admitted to regularly communicating with the victim by phone.

Do reportedly drives a red Mazda, and the victim’s description of his vehicle is consistent with that vehicle.

Do reportedly admitted to taking “lewd” photos of the victim with his phone and soliciting and receiving “lewd” photos from the victim; however, he said he was unaware that she was under the age of 18 when he did that.

A Gainesville Police Department officer noted that the victim’s physical appearance is consistent with that of a young teen.

According to the arrest report, Do is a U.S. citizen who was born in Vietnam.

Do has been charged with kidnapping a child under the age of 13 to commit sexual battery, kidnapping to facilitate a felony, two counts of sexual battery of a victim between the ages of 12 and 18, transmission of child pornography, two counts of traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual activity, and two counts of unlawful use of a two-way communications device. He has no local criminal history (his full history is unavailable because documents are not posted on the court website for crimes with juvenile victims), and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
