I am sure the Other 1/2 that ran for Mayor, And Did Not Win is probably thinking, that the Good O’le Boys Club, is still in Charge in NewBerry Florida!😳
Congratulations, Newberry. You will soon be the best city in the county. You will SHOW the woke rest of the county how great you will become with your new mandatory daily worship of Brother John Birch.
You sound bitter. I suspect Tim and Joy are more alike than you and Joy.
I do not trust people foolish enough to be slave members of cults like the JBS. Such cult membership shows a serious screw loose in their brain wiring rendering them unfit to be in a public position in charge of my life. City commissioner running a sewer plant or trying to steal and run a school, they are not fit. They are not even fit to run the Republican Party. Got it?
Slave member? How is he a “slave member” when he’s paid? As for cults, they have those in the main two political parties.
Marden is breaking the law. Any plain text reading of the lobbying laws demonstrate Marden is flagrantly breaking the lobbying laws. Who will hold him accountable? In any other time this would be a major scandal, but in these times a flagrant violation is met with a shoulder shrug.
Your assertion will be a lot more compelling if you provide the laws in question and how you feel the candidate’s actions violate them.
FLORIDA CONSTITUTION
SECTION 8. Ethics in government.—A public office is a public trust. The people shall have the right to secure and sustain that trust against abuse. To assure this right:
(c) Any public officer or employee who breaches the public trust for private gain and any person or entity inducing such breach shall be liable to the state for all financial benefits obtained by such actions. The manner of recovery and additional damages may be provided by law.
(2) A public officer shall not lobby for compensation on issues of policy, appropriations, or procurement before the federal government, the legislature, any state government body or agency, or any political subdivision of this state, during his or her term of office.
For a self-proclaimed “Constitutionalist” Marden should read the documents once in a while.
It is crystal clear, his lobbying for the radicals in the John Birch Society is a clear violation of Florida’s Constitution, and he should be removed from office. There is no oops “my bag” for this embarrassing and illegal episode.
It is corruption.
Ron:
Timmy is a Republican. He thinks like Thump he is above the law and exempt from the law.
Anyone can file an ethics violation complaint against a politician. They do not have to be a Newberry resident.
Except as soon as he found out about the potential issue, he resigned his lobbying position that he held an entire 4 days!
As a strict, literal Constitutionalist, there is no four day grace period for breaking the law in Florida’s constitution.
You can’t just make one up. ‘shall not’ doesn’t mean under any interpretation means ‘shall not unless one screams no take backs within 4 days.’
Hypocrites…ALL of you.
The Sun said the registration would go into effect on April 1, and Marden told them sometime around March 29 that he would withdraw it. Do you have evidence that he didn’t withdraw it OR that he actually lobbied the federal government?
Or do you just want to make partisan points?
Oh, by the way, Marden won, so I guess the voters weren’t concerned with the legal opinions of a Gainesville Sun reporter who was all too eager to jump on the Joy Glanzer bandwagon without quoting any attorneys at all.
He is in absolute violation of the Constitution and should be stripped. He has been lobbying for the Birch Society for years regardless of the official registration.
the Constitution is clear
“A public officer shall not lobby for compensation on issues of policy, appropriations, or procurement before the federal government, the legislature, any state government body or agency, or any political subdivision of this state, during his or her term of office.”
He has been paid, has lobbied, as an elected official.
He should immediately resign or by removed from office.
If Harvey Ward had another job that paid him to lobby, this place would be melting down screaming for Ron DeSantis to remove him from office. You know that is true.
So file an ethics complaint. Let’s get a ruling on it.
No, please do not file a complaint. The fastest way to destroy Newberry is to let him into office. He will destroy the place. Revenge is sweet. And easy. Besides, the mayor does not vote. Better to have him as Mayor Motormouth v2.0 than a voting commissioner.
Congrats, Tim Marden, but more importantly, the City of Newberry. Tim’s love for his community is huge and he will do a great job as Mayor.
What’s interesting about these numbers is the turnout Marden got the least amount of votes of the 3. Both Mazon/Long got more votes than Marden. Some where between 259-133 voted but didn’t vote for mayor. Marden barely won by 97 votes. Mazon/Long both won by well more than 97 votes. The mayor position getting less votes than 2 city commissioner is odd.
Signal 29 It’s a interesting response you make, considering that hat the only race that has real outside influence and bad mailers was the mayor race things makes perfect sense to anyone who lives and knows these candidates. The candidates with most experience and resonated with the voters won. Joy has lost to Tim before by a smaller margin which I think gave her confidence to do it today but as more than 3x the voters came to voice their opinions since the last local 2022 commissioner election I think this speaks volumes that Newberry wants to stay on the current track with the experience and knowledge of these wining candidates.
Also side note when you and other naysayers were cheering and celebrating for the gators NCAA championship win by 2 pts did you say they barely won, cause a win is a win no matter the score when it comes to history that all that matters.
I am just observing the mayoral race had the least amount of votes which is odd because its a higher level position than city council which in theory should have got the most votes. I am thinking if either Mazon/Long run for mayor against Marden who ever runs is going to win. The only way one of them doesn’t win is if they both run and split the vote and throw it to Marden.
Mayor votes – 1673
Group IV votes – 1628
Group V votes – 1654
More votes were cast in the mayoral race than the other two, so this is not true: “the mayoral race had the least amount of votes.”
It was a more competitive race because outside groups got involved.
Yes Paula,
Those outside groups’ ads helped Joy lose because they were sohwr out-of-place for a small town mayoral race and people came out to vote to say “enough.” If y’all had talked up Joy instead of making your pitch all about Timmy, she may have won..
Instead y’all have already decided it was her not y’all (outside forces). I disagree. It was y’all. 100 percent y’all..
97 Votes Tim!!! People are 👀 watching. Might be your last 💺 seat!
LOL….Because Joy was a formidable candidate. That’s why the mayor race was so close. Y’all had a chance to flip it because she aligned with you. Some of y’all actually think an anti-charter mother with zero experience could have done better than Joy and I am LMFAO over this notion. Run your “Save our Schools” candidate and see what happens. When she loses too will you callously throw her under the bus like you did with Joy?
