Matt Howland announces time off from campaigning to be at his mother’s side

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

Matt Howland, who will take on Cynthia Chestnut in a run-off election for Gainesville City Commission At Large Seat B on January 25, 2022, has posted a letter on his campaign Facebook page, announcing that he will be taking some time away from campaigning in the next few weeks to be with his mother, who has been battling cancer.

In the letter, Howland says, “This week I learned that this battle will likely soon come to an end. For the next few weeks, I will be by her side at her home in Pasco County, Florida, caring for her needs… [W]hile my mother will be my focus for the next few weeks, the commitment I made to the people of this City will not wane and my resolve is stronger than ever. Time is fleeting, and I refuse to waste a single second.”

  • May God Bless your Mother and you during this unbearable time. Your actions are admirable and further proof of why we need you in our City leadership.

  • Matt H is a great candidate! Should he not prevail this election then hopefully he’ll run again next year!
We need good candidates like Matt!
Candidates who if elected won’t be a continuum of the Poe cabal / dynasty!
    Family comes 1st!
