Micanopy man in critical condition after Paynes Prairie accident on 441

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 61-year-old Micanopy man is in critical condition after a Saturday night single-vehicle crash on U.S. Hwy 441.

According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving an SUV southbound on U.S. Hwy 441 in the Paynes Prairie area when, for unknown reasons, the SUV crossed onto the left shoulder of the roadway and into the median. The vehicle crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes, then overturned multiple times and came to rest in the southbound lanes, facing northbound.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was transported to UF Health Shands in critical condition. The release does not indicate whether he was wearing a seatbelt. The crash is still under investigation.
