Video: Mississippi woman killed, ASO Deputy injured in I-75 crash

From Florida Highway Patrol press release

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 66-year-old woman from Magnolia, MS was killed last night when she hit an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) patrol vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of I-75.

At about 10:20 p.m. last night, the deputy was parked at an angle on the west shoulder of I-75, south of exit 390, watching for a reported reckless driver. The vehicle described in the alert swerved to the right as she passed him, and she hit the left rear passenger door of the deputy’s vehicle, which overturned.

The woman was transported to UF Health Shands, where she succumbed to her injuries. The deputy was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office posted the deputy’s body camera video here.

      • I saw the story earlier and that story indicated she was the driver of the car driving erratically. This story gives a similar depiction but utilizes different word placement.

“The vehicle described in the alert swerved to the right as she passed him, and she hit the left rear passenger door of the deputy’s vehicle, which overturned.”

Other report, “The deputy was responding to a reckless vehicle report on I-75, south of exit 390 Monday night around 10:20 p.m.
This is when the reckless vehicle swerved to the right and struck the deputy’s left rear passenger door.”

Same vehicle, same result. You’re welcome.

      • …watching for a reported reckless driver. The VEHICLE DESCRIBED IN THE ALERT swerved to the right as she passed him,…

YES, SHE WAS THE RECKLESS DRIVER.

  • I’m sure she was texting her minority, trans”partner”, all while drunk and high. Bless her heart (and her loved ones).

    • Are you speaking with certain knowledge I?? Or are you just speculating? In addition, the comments you made infer she “deserved” to die. SMH

  • None of this is the deputy’s fault. The reckless driver from Mississippi was at fault. Only sad part of this story is that the deputy was injuried as a result.

  • Often the overhead lights on emergency vehicles blind drivers and cause confusion/accidents. Police and fire need to rethink their procedures.

  • Really??

“The vehicle described in the alert swerved to the right as she passed him, and she hit the left rear passenger door of the deputy’s vehicle, which overturned.”
