Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 55-year-old male was seriously injured today in a motorcycle crash on North Main Street.
According to a Gainesville Police Department spokesman, the motorcycle was traveling northbound at high speed on North Main Street between NW 16th Avenue and NW 23rd Avenue when the motorcycle struck the median and the motorcyclist lost control. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered severe head trauma, but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Speed kills…..hope he makes it.
Motorcycles are awesome. Its a wonderful way to travel.
However, they are not forgiving when things happen.
I have known people who have biked North South, East and West across the US. I always thought that was an amazing thing to do.
And I agree. Hope this guy recovers.
I don’t remember there being a raised median in that segment of Main. I know there’s one between 10th & 16th, (in front of the Post Office), but not north of that. I think the one in front of the Post Office is there primarily for the jaywalkers crossing from the bus stop to Publix.
That being said, not wearing a helmet kills more. That gets compounded exponentially by the sudden decrease in speed, (F=ma).
There are two short medians, one in front of the Audi Dealership and the next before you get to the Clock Restaurant going north.
55 year old and driving a motorcycle at a ‘high rate of speed’ on Mainstreet? What time did this occur? Who, what, when, where, and how….as is taught in J school
