Multiple agencies respond to I-75 crash involving trailers carrying combustible chemicals
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Multiple crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, High Springs Fire Department, and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded today to a semi carrying phosphoric acid that ran off the road at mile marker 391 on I-75 last night; crews are still on scene as of 1:15 p.m., but only one southbound lane is currently open.
The semi, which was pulling two trailers, ran off the road at about 1:25 a.m. and hit several trees; the second trailer turned onto its side. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Summerfield, SC, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Fire rescue units were requested to stand by at the scene today while the chemical was being unloaded because it is highly combustible..
One hour and ten minute delay going southbound at 1:30 PM. Granddaughter got to work one hour late. Just glad the driver is ok with only minor injuries.
That is my husband. He is still in ICU. He will be ok but it was more then minor injuries.
Hi Mandy, I’m glad your husband is recovering. The injury description comes from Florida Highway Patrol, and this is not the first time people have noted that “minor” isn’t what many of us would consider “minor.”
