National Bike Month Pit Stop

Press release from Alachua County

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County and the City of Gainesville are celebrating National Bike Month with a bicyclist “pit stop” on May 22, 2024, on the Sixth Street Trail near SW 2nd Avenue. The pit stop is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and includes coffee, drinks, food, and bike safety gear.

May is National Bike Month, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month showcases the many benefits of bicycling and encourages more people to try it.

  • Hey, let’s sponsor something too early and out of the way for anyone to notice AND brag about it!

  • I was biking to school at 7am entering into a busy roundabout filled with cars when SUDDENLY some guy calls out to me “HEY, STOP” and “WE HAVE DONUTS.” Like, sure, pretend like it’s not dangerous to yell loudly for a cyclist who is merging into a shared lane to stop. Over donuts. He almost made me crash — it was completely unacceptable and shameful. Support bikers, sure, but please keep us alive in the process.
