New water meters coming to High Springs city water customers in next few months
Press release from City of High Springs
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – The City of High Springs is proud to announce the arrival of new, state-of-the-art water metering solutions to High Springs city water customers, called AMI or Advanced Metering Infrastructure. The city has partnered with HST UTILITY to install the new meters, about 2,800 in total. Installation will begin in October.
The purpose of this effort is to upgrade the city’s water distribution system with an electronic reading capability and to replace meters that have served beyond their estimated useful lives. The target meter population includes all commercial and residential meters. The estimated time of completion for the entire project is two months.
AMI technology has been proven to be an effective metering tool in cities and towns across the country. Benefits to AMI include the following:
- Ability to track consumption (hourly reading);
- Smarter decisions regarding service and usage;
- Higher reliability, thanks to timely readings;
- Closer meter reading and billing dates;
- Problem-solving capabilities;
- Improved resident engagement and service.
Residents are encouraged to visit www.highsprings.gov/AMI for complete details, including frequently asked questions.
Enjoy your new ‘smart’ meter that nobody wanted. The only benefit to these is for the utility since they decrease operating costs by not requiring physical readings and by allowing very detailed data collection (which hopefully won’t be sold to a third party data aggregator like many utilities do). Those savings will not be passed on to customers – they never are.
However, these meters do allow for remote data/usage surveillance as well as the ability to remotely control the meter (i.e. on/off/REDUCED).

Will improve the quality of the liquid that city calls water.
Everyone loves mind numbing amounts of fluoride and that extra lovely chlorine taste straight from all of of our city’s taps, right!?
