New wildfire near NE 39th Ave. and NE 15th St.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – As of 4:45 p.m., containment is well-established, and firefighters have moved into the mop-up stage and are identifying and extinguishing hot spots.

Earlier information

As of 2:45 p.m. on April 24, a new wildfire along NE 15th Street, north of NE 39th Avenue, covers 1.5 acres and is 40% contained, due to the rapid response of wildland firefighters. The NE 15th Street Fire is located in an area of large timber.

Florida Forest Service has 3 dozers on scene and, they have plowed a containment line around the fire. Fire behavior is low, and a smoke column can be seen.

There are no road closures and no evacuations, but smoky conditions exist in the area of NE 15th Street. No actions are currently required by area residents other than to stay away from the area due to the presence of first responders working to suppress this fire.

  • Is it possible that the “campers” in the woods are starting these fires in the urban areas of Gainesville?

  • Gosh, I can’t imagine how these “natural” phenomena only seem to happy in homeless wildlife areas?

    Did you hear L.A. is building a $100 million “eco overpass” corridor so wildlife can cross a highway out there? I hope the little critters don’t play with matches, gosh golly gee 🥸🤓
