New Year’s message from Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward

Press release from City of Gainesville

Dear Gainesvillagers:

As we begin 2025 together, my hope is that each and every one of you experience good health, personal growth, and prosperity in the coming weeks and months.

As Nikki Giovanni once wrote, “If we don’t like the world we’re living in, change it. And if we can’t change it, we change ourselves. We can do something.” This year will bring opportunities for us to change our city, our world, and ourselves. I look forward to working to make these changes together.

On behalf of the Gainesville City Commission and our entire organization, I wish you and yours the happiest of new years.

Harvey

  • We will change you out like a non-functioning lightbulb. No mention of the person killed downtown last night?

  • I wish Gainesville (and Alachua County) voters would wake up and change their city (and county) commission.

    • Don’t forget the highly over paid City Manager. She ran out of her own church service to rush into another church service to interfere with a legal police arrest. She made a dangerous situation more dangerous for the police. Then she was ignorant enough to blame the police and accuse them of not being willing to enter a white church and protect the members of the white church when a suspect might enter their church. She should go back to doing what she does best. Firing people to find the city money to pay her $300,000 salary. Good hiring decision here, Gainesville.

  • Yay, his goal is change for the sake of change. That ALWAYS turns out well. To heck with “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

  • The chronic and unrepresentative complainers who dominate this board are unhappy with a non-partisan and generic well-wishing from the mayor. Yeah, the quoting of a black author they find offensive, though her words can be taken as benign advice to them among all citizens – “If we don’t like the world we’re living in, change it. And if we can’t change it, we change ourselves. We can do something.”

Have you seen the president elects “Truth” tweet of Jan 2? It’s vile, hateful, and ignorant and I won’t link or copy it here. He doesn’t get that whether we like it or not he is the president of all Americans, not just his MAGA and GOP fans and his BS accusations against his “enemies” is off the charts of partisan behavior and should – if anyone took him seriously – preclude any working together as Americans.

Thank you’re lucky stars Ward is not that guy, nor was Biden, Obama, Clinton, and even both Bushes and Reagan. They were and are much bigger men.
