Newberry American Legion will celebrate Afghanistan Veterans with a Sept 25 parade

Newberry American Legion Post 149 invites you to a “Welcome Home Afghanistan Veterans” Parade and Expo on Saturday, September 25th, 2021. The Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. at the Walker Lee’s Produce Stand, 25100 W. Newberry Road, and proceed to the First Baptist Church at 25520 W. Newberry Road.
Opening Ceremonies and an Expo will be held at Clark Plantation, 3700 SW 202nd Street, Newberry, beginning at 12 noon. Live music will begin at 1 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.
The Expo will feature a car show, the National Guard, information booths regarding housing, jobs, and counseling for vets as well as food and beverage vendors; a kid-friendly play area and a bloodmobile will be onsite as well. A silent auction and a raffle will also be held to raise funds for military veterans.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans’ organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. Newberry American Legion Post 149 operates entirely on sponsors, donations, and volunteers and is one of the few organizations that gives 100% of the proceeds to local veterans’ programs.
