Newberry man arrested for pulling a knife and threatening to kill man outside bar
Staff report
NEWBERRY, Fla. – Diontrey Whitfield, 41, was arrested last night after allegedly punching another man inside a bar the previous night and then pulling a knife on the same man outside the bar while threatening to kill him.
At about 11:20 p.m. on April 14, Whitfield was reportedly playing pool at Shorty’s (455 NW 252nd St., Newberry) when he began losing and the victim started mocking him. Whitfield allegedly became upset, walked over to the victim, and punched him in the side of his head. The two men began fighting and fell to the ground before the fight was broken up by other patrons at the bar.
The two men reportedly walked outside, continuing to argue, and Whitfield allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and charged at the victim, chasing him and yelling that he would kill him. The victim managed to get inside a vehicle and lock the doors, ending the altercation.
The responding Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy reported that the victim had minor injuries.
Whitfield was arrested on the evening of April 15 at the same bar.
Whitfield has been charged with battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has three felony convictions (none violent) and two misdemeanor convictions (none violent); he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2005. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail pending a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
Poor loser
Bad Bad Leroy Brown…
Is he a resident of Newberry’s gov’t housing or another town’s gov’t housing?
Does it matter?
be a good idea to trespass him from the bar.
sharpin the stick and come to knife n gun
Once again, and again, and again, a “repeat offender.” Looks to me like arrest and release just doesn’t work.
I’m shocked, shocked to learn that the conservative utopia of Newberry allows those decadent things called BARS. What ever happened to the conservative family values of the city fathers? Clean up your city, close all the bars.
