Newberry woman arrested for firing gun at man because his dog was on her property

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Tiara Lashay Butler, 29, was arrested yesterday after allegedly shooting at a man whose dog was on her property.

At about 6:20 p.m. on May 8, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a property off of NW 154th Street, where Butler had reportedly argued with a man because his dog was on her property. While they were arguing, Butler allegedly fired a pistol in the victim’s direction, causing the victim to fear for his safety.

A witness said she was inside her house when she looked out her window and saw Butler fire a single shot in the victim’s direction.

Post Miranda, Butler reportedly admitted that she had fired the gun and said she was trying to shoot at the victim’s dog, but because the victim was near the dog, it looked like she was shooting at the victim.

Butler has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She has no criminal convictions; Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial.
