Nicaraguan man arrested on I-75 in Gainesville for stealing car in Tennessee

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Miguel Angel Nunez Garcia, 34, was arrested yesterday after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulled over the car he was driving because it matched an alert provided to law enforcement about a stolen car.

The trooper received an alert about the blue Nissan Kick at 11:12 a.m. yesterday and conducted a traffic stop on the car at about noon. The owner of the car had been tracking her vehicle and providing updates to law enforcement. The owner said Nunez Garcia had been staying with her in Tennessee, and when she woke up, Nunez Garcia, the car, and the car keys were gone.

Nunez Garcia was identified by his Nicaragua driver’s license and Nicaragua ID card. Documentation from the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that was found in the car confirmed his identity.

Nunez Garcia was charged with grand theft auto. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $10,000.

  • This story is about an idiot who stole his girlfriends car. It has nothing to do with his being from Nicaragua or Biden’s immigration policies He will certainly be deported by the United States government for commiting a felony offense.

    • True, he was/is an idiot. However, whether he is deported remains to be seen. Gainesville has declared itself a sanctuary city and may offer asylum to him until his status is determined.

      One thing is pretty clear, it may not be relevant his nationality, but it is equally as relevant that Biden’s lack of policies, or should we say, enforcement of current policies, that is not doing much to curb the illegal immigration.

      • Gainesville has declared itself a “sanctuary city?” You mean the University of Florida has declared Gainesville a sanctuary city. Without the wee morons at UF and their sheep herders, G’ville would never have done such a silly thing. Glad I live out in the county, not in G’ville.

  • He had a green card. Which means that he was here legally. Which goes to show that criminals are criminals and their immigration status is irrelevant. I know people that have been here ILLEGALLY for 15 years and have never committed ANOTHER crime since they entered our country illegally. Stop making everything political just so you have a chance to spout your cute little nicknames you have for politicians that you don’t like. This individual committed a crime and it’s not because of anyone but himself.
