O2B Kids employee arrested after allegedly shaking playhouse, causing child to fall on his head onto concrete surface

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – De’neishia Shateria Garner, 30, was arrested yesterday after allegedly shaking a playhouse, causing a four-year-old child to fall head-first onto a concrete surface.

At about 11:49 a.m. on October 28, Garner was supervising children on the playground at O2B Kids (4929 NW 43rd Street ) when the child climbed the playhouse and Garner allegedly intentionally shook the playhouse so the child would fall off. The child reportedly fell from the top of the playhouse to the ground.

The child reportedly got up, brushed himself off, and continued playing with the other children, but a few minutes later, the child climbed the playhouse again, and Garner allegedly walked quickly to the playhouse and began to “violently” shake it, causing the child to fall backward and flip over onto his head.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the daycare facility and reported that the child fell head-first from a height of about five feet onto concrete pavement and that the entire incident was recorded on surveillance cameras.

The victim was reportedly transported to the emergency room, where he received nine stitches for a deep laceration on his head and multiple scans for possible internal injuries.

The officer reported that he spoke with a witness who said she saw Garner shake the playhouse and saw the child fall onto the pavement; a Regional Manager for the company was there and reportedly told the officer that Garner was terminated from employment because of the incident.

The officer reported that he made contact with Garner at her apartment. Post Miranda, she reportedly said she intentionally shook the playhouse to warn the child not to climb that high. She said she told the child, “We keep our feet on the ground.” She reportedly said that she saw the child climb the playhouse again and intentionally shook it again to scare the child.

Garner has no previous criminal convictions. She has been charged with aggravated child abuse, and Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $10,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Please, court ordered mental health confinement for this lady. Her next victim may not be so lucky. Blood on your hands judges.

  • Why was the playhouse loose on a concrete surface? Dangerous design in the first place. Young kids are natural climbers. As large as this day care chain is, they should have planned better and trained their employees to handle the climbers better. I doubt there was any desire to injure the climber.

    • Maybe she didn’t want to INTENTIONALLY injure the child the first time. But why would you shake the playhouse a second time? After the child had already fallen. she absolutely deserves time.

  • That place should be shut down. I’ve read many complaints of other employees mistreating children and this is the last straw, there were witnesses and no one stopped her, before getting this far. She should serve time in jail and without bail. What she did is unforgivable.

  • De’neishia Shateria, wonder if she’s any relation to Kechedryi Linchanueshawnt? These names are hilarious if nothing else, clearly made up to try and sound African and of course they sound nothing like African names. They just sound silly.

  • If your kids go to O2B Kids, pull them out now before they get killed.

The specific actions of “D-Shat” here are one thing, but even more concerning is that there are apparently no standards for hiring caretakers at O2B Kids and there is no oversight/monitoring of the caretakers as they interact with kids.

  • Judge Rawls at it again with a ridiculously low bail. This woman deserves to rot in jail. As a preschool teacher and parent, this is disgusting and she should be punished to the fullest extent. O2B Kids is a horrible care center and chain. I’ve heard horror stories from several former employees. I would NEVER send my kids there.
