Oakview Park renovations complete

Press release from City of Gainesville

The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places program, in conjunction with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, is thrilled to announce that the renovation project at Oakview Park is complete. Located at 810 NW 8th Ave. (formerly named Kiwanis Girl Scout Park), Oakview Park is open for the community to enjoy!

Improvements to the park’s outdoor features include a new modern playground, a bridge over the creek, ADA walking paths, and added parking. The park also received an extensive vegetation clean up, removing exotic invasive plants and planting Florida native species along the creek bank and throughout the park.

Improvements also include an extensive renovation to the nearly 66-year-old building built in 1955 by the Kiwanis Club of Gainesville, transforming the space into a community center. The building was occupied by the Gainesville Girl Scout Council until 2014. The Kiwanis Club then gifted the building to the City of Gainesville in 2019. The City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department has now partnered with the after-school program Aces in Motion making the space available for youth programming.

The Oakview Park improvement project was realized through thoughtful collaboration with the Gainesville community. We’d like to extend thanks to all our neighbors who participated in the open houses that guided the improvement decisions.

  • The mural on 8th Ave in front of the park with the guy wearing the face mask with his hands up with the whitehouse in the background is creepy…what’s the message it’s trying to convey? Compliance & control
    With the masks??? Communism???
