Ocala man killed in single-vehicle accident on I-75 off-ramp

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 22-year-old Ocala man was killed early this morning when he failed to negotiate a curve on the I-75 off-ramp at SR 121 in Gainesville.

According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 12:25 a.m., the man was traveling northbound on I-75 in a pickup truck and exited at the SR 121 off-ramp at a high rate of speed; the driver failed to negotiate the curve, and the pickup truck left the roadway and hit a tree. The driver was transported to UF Health Shands, where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. According to the release, the man was not wearing a seatbelt.

  • 4th traffic fatality this weekend in this county. 2nd without seatbelts. I know they are a pain un the butt but they do help save life in accidents, not 100 percent, but most of the time.

  • If it were anything but a tree that was hit, the tree huggers would be protesting the object be removed.
