October 18 Alachua County Planning Commission Meeting

Press release from Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, Gainesville). This meeting begins at 6 p.m.

The Committee will take public comments in person only. The meeting can be viewed on Cox Channel 12, the AC TV app (Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku), or the County’s Video on Demand website.

Item for the Planning Commission Meeting:

Z23-000004 (Large-Scale Comprehensive Plan Amendment) – The purpose of this meeting is to consider changes to the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan (by specifically adding Policy 6.4.2.1 in our Future Land Use Element) that would permit accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in areas designated as rural clusters in Alachua County. An ADU is an additional living unit that would be permitted on a residential lot greater than one acre in size within the cluster. ADUs are already allowed on Rural/Agriculture properties outside of Rural Clusters. The language, if ultimately approved by the Board of County Commissioners, would enable residents who reside in rural clusters on lots greater than one acre to permit a second dwelling unit on their parcel, provided they meet certain ADU standards as found in the Unified Land Development Code. • The ability to add an accessory dwelling unit to land in rural clusters would make it easier to put a home for elderly parents on family land. This is a common sense amendment that’s sensitive to the high cost of homeownership these days.

    I support this amendment!
