Staff report

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Alachua County Fire Rescue Captain Jennifer Allee saved a woman’s life last month while attending a youth softball game in Newberry.

According to a release from ACFR, Allee was attending her daughter’s softball tournament at Champion’s Park in Newberry when a player’s grandmother suddenly collapsed. Recognizing that the patient was in cardiac arrest, Captain Allee immediately began CPR and called for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from the nearby concession stand while another mother called 911.

Within two minutes of starting CPR, Allee was able to apply the AED and defibrillate the patient, resulting in the return of the patient’s heartbeat. The patient was transported for further care and was home with her family days later.

The patient is now reportedly doing great and is back to watching her granddaughter play softball; in the picture above, she recently celebrated her birthday with the team.

ACFR commends Captain Allee for her quick actions that day and notes that the growing availability of AEDs in our community is saving lives.
