Officials recommend avoiding CR 225 due to a brush fire

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Alachua County Fire Rescue is asking the public to avoid CR 225 near CR 1475 due to a large brush fire.

Alachua County Fire Rescue units, along with Lacrosse Fire Rescue and Florida Forestry, responded to a small brush fire in the vicinity of CR 225 and CR 1475. Shifting winds moved the fire quickly before it could be contained; the fire grew to 250 acres but was 70% contained earlier this evening.

Firefighters are currently working with Forestry, who has several dozers in the area, attempting to contain the fire.

A reverse 911 call out was sent to alert the local residents of the fire and smoke conditions in the area.

ACFR is urging anyone traveling in the area to try to avoid using CR 225 in that area.

  • It is a lot to ask, however, including a small map would be helpful. I appreciate everything you are doing to bring us up-to-date information.

  • God bless these firefighters. They’re doing a dangerous job and I can’t imagine how hot and uncomfortable they must be in this heat with all their fire gear on. You guys are heroes and my deepest respect and gratitude to you all. Prayers for your safety.
