Old Town man arrested for pointing a rifle at another driver on US 441

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

John Michael Gerry, 55, of Old Town, was arrested yesterday afternoon after allegedly pointing a rifle at another driver during a road rage incident.

At about 12:55 p.m. yesterday, a man pulled over and told a High Springs Police Department officer that someone had just pulled an assault rifle on him. The officer was conducting a traffic stop and relayed the information to other units. The victim was able to provide a description of the vehicle, the driver, the gun, and a picture of the vehicle and tag. The incident occurred near where US 441 splits with US 27 in High Springs.

Officers made contact with Gerry at 19200 NW US Hwy 441 in the described vehicle. Post Miranda, Gerry reportedly said he and the victim were involved in a “road rage incident” and that he had raised his rifle, which had been on the floorboard of the back seat of the car.

The victim told officers that Gerry had driven aggressively toward the rear of his vehicle while he was in the process of passing him. The victim said that after he had gotten back over after passing, Gerry had pulled up next to him and pointed the rifle at him, causing him to be afraid for his life and for his daughter, who was in the back seat.

Gerry has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and improper exhibition of a firearm. He has been released on his own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • A person showing a deadly weapon in a confrontational situation should not be ROR’ed. And he definitely needs to give up his guns until the case is resolved.

  • Just another example of criminals being stupid.

Pretty sure that right to bear arms will be revoked… justifiably so.
